Blossman/Holloway 2003 A Ticket to Conservative Reform
Baton Rouge - "This ticket is a path to conservative reforms," Jay Blossman, the conservative candidate for Governor stated proudly.
PSC Chairman Blossman and Former Congressman Clyde Holloway announced today their partnership on a "political ticket" for Louisiana's two top posts, Governor and Lt. Governor. This unique arrangement is the first time Louisiana voters will be presented with a two-tier ticket in nearly half a century.
"I'm running for Governor because we've got to challenge the political establishment and start to do things differently," continued Blossman. "This political ticket is different!"
A favorite of Louisiana conservatives, Lt. Governor Candidate Clyde Holloway served three terms in the United States Congress. Holloway was known as a conservative leader in Congress where he led the national fight for child care tax credits. While in Congress, Holloway served with now Vice President Dick Cheney, Speaker of the House Denis Hastert, and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. Holloway's congressional seat was eliminated when the federal reapportionment process reduced the number of congressional districts in Louisiana.
"I'm running for Lt. Governor for one reason economic development. We should expect stronger leadership from our Lt. Governor. I will be a Lt. Governor who will push legislative reforms, create economic development and bring jobs to Louisiana," stated Holloway.
Holloway continued, "My campaign will block the liberal Landrieu establishment from growing. One Landrieu in a top post is enough!"
" And I'm running with Jay because he is the only Republican who can beat Ieyoub, Blanco or Leach," stated Holloway. "Jay is an energetic leader and his values are grounded in conservative principles."
"Under no circumstance could I allow conservatives to waste their votes on someone who couldn't win come November,' continued Holloway. "We've got to get behind Jay or we risk having Ieyoub or Leach becoming our next Governor."
Blossman also addressed the expanded role he would expect Holloway to play when elected. "Clyde's experience with passing legislation will be invaluable to me in helping push needed reforms," stated Blossman. "Additionally, I will call upon his leadership to help me reinvigorate the Louisiana Department of Economic Development."
"While I will oversee all economic development efforts, this job is too big for just one person. That's why I'm going to make Congressman Holloway my lead man on economic development."
"Clyde and I will travel the world to bring jobs to Louisiana," added Blossman.
For more than 36 years, Clyde Holloway has been a small business owner. His primary business is Holloway Nursery which employees 45 people.
"As a business owner, I know first hand the troubles businesses face because of the government. This time Louisiana will be given an opportunity to elect a Republican who will govern like a Republican," concluded Holloway. "That person is Jay Blossman."
"Having Clyde Holloway as a running mate helps my campaign," concluded Blossman. "He has earned the trust of Louisiana conservatives and his reputation throughout Louisiana is strong. My opponents should beware
now they have two, strong, united conservatives to compete against."
If the ticket loses, and most expect it to do, will Holloway then try to unseat Rep. Rodney Alexander, D-LA, presumably a supporter of potential "President" Gephardt.
