Judge: State Can't Prevent Wind Power Test Tower

BOSTON -- A federal judge in Boston has ruled against an effort to halt a proposed offshore wind farm on Nantucket Sound that proponents say could supply nearly three-quarters of the electricity used on Cape Cod and the Islands.

U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Tauro said the state had no authority to stop the construction of a test tower currently operating in the sound. Wind farm opponents said they will appeal Tauro's decision.

Developer Cape Wind Associates wants to erect 130 towers about five miles off Cape Cod. Spokesman Mark Rodgers hopes the decision will set a precedent for permitting of the entire project.

Opponents say the wind farm would damage wildlife, destroy views and harm the fishing and boating industries. They also say there are no firm guidelines on how and where offshore wind towers can be built.

Environmentalists bleated for decades against using fossil fuels and coal for power and always said there were better alternatives. It doesn't get any greener than to use wind and yet they still are against it. It's plain to see that they are simply anti-American traitors and only want to weaken the free-est country in the world through their anti-job, anti-energy-independence protests and lawsuits because they are socialists and only believe in a controlled society with a communist system.

As I understand it, ol Walter Cronkite, a pathetic liberal, someone old enough to KNOW BETTER and surely smart enough to know how lucky he is live in the great nation, is leading the fight to stop the solar wind mills.

What a great big bunch of phoney rich liberals who don't want their cozy view messed with.....who prevent nuclear power plants from being erected but who only want the wind mills in the backyards of the poor folks....who obviously don't need a good view.

That should upset the Nantucket Land Bank that now charges a 2% "transfer fee" on the sale of all property sold on Nantucket in order to purchase land on Nantucket for conservation purposes. I was watching a program where one of the Land Bank's representatives stated that they hoped to raise that to 4% of the sale because they needed more money. One developer was forced to sell his property to them under the threat that they would take his land by eminent domain if he didn't.

One plot of land bought by the Nantucket Land Bank was turned into a golf course. I guess they were concerned about tee conservation.

If they were to put the towers in a poor neighborhood where the libs really.... really... cared about the people and out of their site.

No, this isn't the only place they're protesting clean energy, they're also trying to stop them in the Pennsyvania working-class countryside. They simply are anti-American, anti-job, and anti-business because they want controlled society through communism. I'm sure that there are rich liberals that are against these by Cape Cod because of the view but these protests are going on in more places than this.

The key word here is ONE. One is kind of neat, but the farms (which are required to make much energy) are awful. Have you seen a farm?
I'd rather see oil wells. I did like the cute oil wells in CA that were put in agricultural fields and decorated to look like giant grasshoppers.

On TV, yeah, I think they're cool. I don't think I'd mind living in the sight of them. Maybe I can pick up some cheap real estate by one. :^)

A lot of those in southern Illinois. There were several around the house I grew up in. We always heard the boom boom boom when they were running. Our property had 3 inch oil lines running here and there in the woods. Maybe that's why I don't mind these mechanical structures, I'm used to them.
