[history]
It is an extraordinary time to write about the current events that dominate our news.
For instance, our executive, a handmaiden of powerful special interests, is nearing war with two hostile and irrational dictatorships. And that is merely Gov. Gary Locke fielding criticism for his budget from the Washington Education Association and Washington State Labor Council, to say nothing about national news.

Now this man truly knows what a conservative really is, unlike Irving Kristol and other neo-cons.

Kristol thinks it's time to ram the state down conservatives throats, whither they want it or not. Looks like he will get his way to a large extent.

Link to Olympian doesn't work and I'm not likely to be able to put it here for others to see as it is from January.
Surprised that there are any conservatives left in Olympia.
Welcome to FR.

The sad part is the number of Vichy Conservatives who have convinced themselves that the battle is lost.

The RINO part is the GOP of Big Gummint--cf. Scwarzenegger's "save the chilluns" Tom Thompson's addition of 4,000 employees to the Wisconsin State payroll in only 16 years, and (Lord, save us) GWBush's thrusting an extra zillion or so into Federal Education programs.
But RINOs are not Republicans--they only call themselves that to get elected. RINOS are Statists. They take care of their friends, and themselves, mostly w/Gummint jobs and largesse.

All the RINO talk of "returning power to the states" doesn't mean smaller government on the federal, state or local levels. What it means is taking more and more tax dollars from the entire country and then cutting big checks to the states to spend. Federal gets bigger every year. State gets bigger every year because there is more tax dollars coming in from DC, and local gets bigger because from the extra money handed down from the state. And of course, it all usually done "for the children." As long as soccer moms are the swing voters, none of this will change.

"A conservative is a person who believes the fundamental purpose of human existence is to lead a happy life and that it is the responsibility of the individual, with his or her family, and through his or her voluntary associations -- churches, service organizations, trade associations -- to cultivate the fruits of his or her happiness, and to help others in need. "

Interesting read.

Dr. Edwin Vieira is one of the authors of the must-read, "Crashmaker," which is a precis of right-thinking about Sound Money, Polticial Philosophy, Constitutionality, Morality, Theology, ect.
This book is not inexpensive but it is an antidote to the lies the public schools have taught this past half-century.
But it. Now.

I don't think we can be grateful enough to Mr. Kristol and his recent piece in the Weakly Standard. He not only admits that "Neocons" exist- thus destroying the laughable attempts of some "conservatives" over the past few months to say they didn't and were the boogey men of "anti semitic" right wingers- but he also says that Neocons love the state, accept and expect it's growth, and like to fight wars all over the world as well for empire.
Thank you Mr. Kristol for "coming out".

DiLorenzo pretty well took Kristol apart on LRC this week. Good read, in case you missed it.

FDR first run for office was a platform of anti-big government. After a coup was attempted and fizzled, he switched horses, realizing that big government and access to the treasury was the key to a lifetime grip on the office of president.
