Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks during a meeting with his economic advisors dubbed the "California Economic Recovery Council" in Los Angeles.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Republican candidate in California's recall race for governor, said he would hire an outside auditor to go through the state budget and identify potential areas to cut. He also pledged to avoid raising taxes.

Say isn't that what you are trying to convince people not rallying behind your liberal of doing?

I'm not accusing them of anything. They have repeatedly stated that they would gladly fall on thier swords and see Bustamante elected governor in order to make some point which escapes me.

I'm simply stating facts.

McClintock is the best, because he will veto tax hikes.

Next, from a strictly anti-tax point of view, Bustamante is the best, because he's a galvanizing force- the Assembly and Senate GOP will fight like hell against him and his tax increases.

On the bottom are Arnold and the other RINOs. They, like Bustamante, will propose tax hikes. But there will be no significant legislative opposition- the Democrats will get a tax hike, which they love, and enough Republicans care more about being Republicans than being conservatives that they'll pass the budget.

For those of us who are ardently against tax increases, Arnold is hands down the worst choice.

"But the war against waste ultimately transcends partisanship. The Senate district from which I was elected in a landslide in 2000 also voted for Al Gore. I can tell you that the quest to restore sound fiscal management resonates deeply in Democratic constituencies as well." -- Tom McClintock, 2001 Speech

Keep this up and you'll have everyone on FR voting for Bustamante too.

You RNC "triangulation" hacks are hilarious. I'm sure that is exactly what AngryClam is trying to do by defeating you in arguements!

Whenever a RINO on here is losing, they pull out their "Ace" and claim the conservative is trying to make people vote for Mondale/Bustamante. Go yell "boo" at people who might believe that.

Newsflash; Bustamante promised to raise taxes $8 billion yesterday. He won't carry San Fran with that idiocy.

Thats bull. There are plenty of quotes from McClintock supporters including several in this thread which state McClintock supporters would prefer Bustamante to Arnold or wouldn't care if Bustamante won as long as they "made thier point." Personally, I think they should seek counseling but I digress.

Maybe that's why your so confused. I don't know of anyone on here that wants "No Tax Decreases" Bustamante elected, and will fall on their swords against Ahrnold. What I see are people trying to get [cowardly] Republicans who don't realize they have a better message to go out and sell it. The election isn't till Oct. I don't think your candidate is someone we should be rallying around at this point. He doesn't have a firm grasp of the issues, which even you supporters admit, and that will be attacked by the Independents.

Something else you are forgetting, Bob Mulholund is a nasty SOB, and he is sitting on some pretty terrible stuff, which he WILL release 10-14 days outside of the election, if we don't have a viable alternative-Tom McClintock-guess what? You get the "n-word" becuase conservatives simply won't vote.

It's not to "make my point" that Bustamante is preferable to Arnold, simply that nearly every anti-tax Republican in the legislature would sell themselves out to a tax-hiking Republican like Arnold.

So do you honestly believe that the legislative GOP caucus would fight just as hard against Arnold's budget as they did this past year against Davis's or Cruz's proposed tax hikes?

You live in a dream world if you do.

I don't think Arnie is gonna run off and propose a new round of taxes. I am practically certain he is not going to be endorsing giving illegal immigrants drivers licenses. There is plenty of other damage Bustamante can do with a simple majority, but you point does not escape me.

*taps finger on desk* That's what I thought, you don't have any evidence-except in your mind. Heck, I just told you that no one would fall on their sword, meaning I won't vote in Oct against the liberal Republican if its down to a two horse race. I think that should have been pretty obvious.

You just want people to gleefully rally in August, because you are terrified of the 'R' losing to the 'D' more than anything. You simply don't understand that there are concepts behind those letters that we are arguing about. Argueing is not to be feared.

And the problem is that tax hikes essentially never get repealed.

All that other stupid stuff is fairly easy to fix with an initiative or legislative pressure.

Taxes, once they show up, are here forever, which is why it is a litmus test issue for me. The fact that Arnold has shown no desire to rule out any tax increase whatsoever, but has shown a prediliction for large state spending (through Prop. 49 and other statements), leads me to be very, very wary of him.

Resistance to tax increases is a sine qua non of statewide GOP politics, and Arnold apparently hasn't figured that out yet.

Hey man. That's good to hear, though not everyone shares you view. I have nothing against McClintock but his poll numbers need to show a vast improvement in a very short amount of time in order to remain a viable candidate. If I thought he had a serious chance I would be behind him 100%, but this isn't your father's California (or even Pete Wilson's)

You live in a dream world if you do.

That's pretty much it. I asked for links of McClintock posters saying they will vote for Bustamante over the liberal Republican.

All I got was a child sticking their tongue out at me.

A vote for McClintock is a vote for Bustamante.

I don't think any candidate for elected office can make "no new taxes" part of their campaign ever since the Bush I debacle. You didn't see Bush II campaigning on "no new taxes"

There's no way on God's Green Earth that I'd ever vote for Bustamante.

However, I think I'm the one that got put in that category because I pointed out, correctly, that, as far as holding the line on taxes, overall Bustamante is a better choice than Arnold, because he energizes the legislative GOP against his budget, while Arnold does not.

Well if that is the case, at LEAST let them campaign for a few more weeks before all this "rallying" talk. My goodness, what is the rush? This state isn't a majority GOP, but that is because the independents are so angry the GOP is Left.

Look at our recent Props that passed, without any candidate (like a RINO) that they would have to take at their word, just voting on LAW;

1994 - Proposition #184: Three-strikes, life imprisonment for repeat felons.
1994 - Proposition #187: Cut off state funds for Illegal Aliens.
1996 - Proposition #209: Ended statewide Affirmative Action
1998 - Proposition #227: Ended bilingual education
2000 - Proposition #22: Defined marriage as one man - one woman.

These things aren't even MODERATE-RIGHT. They are completely RIGHT.

Pete Wilson, incedentally signed the largest tax increase in state history with no party to oppose him. It needlessly prolonged our recession and ironically brought in less tax $ than before the raise because it hurt economic growth. Any conservative understands this.

Ironically most of the Wilson team represents "the right wing" of the Shriver cabinet, and now we've come full circle.
