Researcher's Study of Twins Bolsters 'Gateway Theory' (For Early Marijuana Use)

Many studies have examined the "gateway" theory, that marijuana use at a young age leads to use of harder drugs as a person grows older. While there is a general consensus among studies that those who use marijuana are much more likely to use hard drugs and that hard drug users usually use marijuana first, there is lively debate surrounding the reasons for these dynamics.

The idea that kids will have less access to pot because of the WOD is, as has been shown beyond dispute, a complete non-starter.

Where has this been shonw? Now you are just making up fairylates to suit your drug-enhanced imagination.

And if pot were made legal here in the US, they would start smoking to the point of incapacitation and "inevitable" experimentation with other, harder drugs?

Who said anything about that? I was responding to the following question:

"Do you think there are lots of people just waiting to indulge in marijuana if only it was legal?"

Ozzie lecturing on the evils of drugs is akin to an aged, sagging, over-the-hill Bill Clinton teaching a class on celibacy.

LOL, Well it is doubtful that ole slick was ever celibate, however we are pretty certain that Ozzy is very familar with the drugs that he is preaching against.

You are really quite dense, to the point that it's almost painful to try and converse at your diminished level.

Its sale would most likely be regulated by the government, no?

It doesn't mean that anyone could set up a pot-growing business on the fly.

And I think you are mistaking Conservatism for Puritan totalitarianism.

I thought that maybe this thread was about the Bush twins toking up in the Rose Garden, or something like that.

Because this other 'Gateway Theory' is purely political, not scientific or empirical.

Google 'Lysenkoism'. It's a related concept, supported by other totalitarian thugs.

I have identical twins, and they are complete opposites. I think it may be more about the twin's personality than it is about marijuana.

I think it is probably that one of the twins is more of a risk taker, and the other one isn't.

Identical twins may have the same DNA, but they are completely different people.

How could your conclusion there possibly carry any weight. You have yet to show yourself capable of developing a valid argument in favor of a policy that you clearly hold in the highest of possible regards.

Not at all. Conservatives are not libertarians but pragmatists. They are historically in favor of limitations on personal liberty that benefit the common good.

The so-called "gateway theory" is nothing more than common sense.

The pot-heads that post on FR merely copy and paste the mantra from the pro-drug sites without caring for common sense or facts. They live by the rule that if you post it often enough, someone will believe it.

Shhhh. LeRoy supports legalized drugs because he hopes the rest of these idiots kill themselves with drugs. Survival of the fittest is always the philosophy of the moutainman.

Right. That's why I am happy to keep bumping this thread forever. Good point.

again drugs are easy to get because they are illegal

Perhaps we should make homework illegal then the kids would spend all their time doing homework?

And the WoD demonstrably is a great evil on our society that does no good for any well-intentioned person. The pragmatic approach is to change minds, not incarcerate bodies. Legalization is a less expensive policy, less damaging to American citizens and the rule of law, is historically the correct thing to do, and before the eyes of God it is also the correct thing to do.

It is also the logical thing to do. I have seen with my own eyes that the damage done by the WoD far and away outstrips the damage that individual drug users do to themselves, while having extremely damaging secondary effects on citizens who are uninvolved in any way. In addition, incarceration denies the citizen the possibility of redemption, in favor of punishment.

I don't see what is conservative at all about the WoD. I find everything about it soaked in all the hallmarks of Leftist Marxism.
