I am NOT a Californian so my opinion means nothing on the topic of CA Governor, however, I am very impressed. He looks quite professional and serious. He seems to be able to hadle all the questions with knowledge and humor. (First time I ever heard that Prop 13 holds only til you sell the property.) My support for Arnold had lessened recently with the Buffet and Lowe addition to the staff. But I now think he can pull it off.

Cruz would be worse than Davis. Let him win... He'll be out by 2006 and we can elect a real Republican. IMHO, if California elects Davis' Lt. Gov. in the recall election---it takes an extraordinary leap in logic to believe a Republican could EVER win.
To: William McKinley
No, but what Bloomberg is, is a perfect example of the damage someone who is a hard core Democrat at heart can do if they masquerade as a Republican. An excellent point - there is most definitely a point where a liberal simply cannot fit within the GOP, and can cause more damage to the party than good.
I am not quite where dirtboy is yet.
If Arnold were to show he was serious about at least some conservative values, especially regarding spending, limited government, gun rights and illegal immigration, then I think he should be given consideration. But just the fact that he took education off the table when it comes to spending cuts shows that he is not serious about cutting spending enough to deal with the problem.

Do you want an actor in Sacramento or an executive with years of political experience? I would go with the actor (communicator)rather than someone with years of political experience who has never managed anything and never accomplished anything. As far as being an executive, I thought McClintock spent his entire life in politics. What did he ever do in the real world?

How do you think the liberal agenda advanced as it did? Because Liberals understand incrementalism.
I agree. It'd be nice to have Gov. McClintock, and just maybe we will. But on October 7 I must vote for the conservative or merely not-as-liberal candidate who has the best chance of winning, unless I have an EXTREMELY good reason to believe that allowing Cruz to win, and continue to drive jobs and growth from the state for 37 more months, SURELY will result in a sustainable GOP sweep in '06. And I don't have that "good reason" to believe that.
So, go Tom! But if you're wayyyy behind later, Tom, I'm voting for Arnold!

GD media is not letting him talk......They are speaking over his news conference.
To: muleskinner
I thought that was one of the most important insights here -the Hoover Inst. is not going to advise him to vacate Prop 13.
To: jfritsch
Well, now we know which candidate the Teacher's Union owns. They own Gray Davis. They own Bustamante next. Did you read my enter post? Even the conservatives in the Legislature are unwilling to take on the education establishment.

Then why did he hire Buffet who says Californians don't pay enough property taxes? Sheeeeesh
To give you something to Sheeeeeesh about.... Why not listen to various opinions? Not necessary to implement them all..... Hell even a stopped clock has the correct time twice a day.....

McClintock is the next Reagan? No, I was just pointing out that conservatives (or even moderate Republicans such as Pete Wilson) can get elected in California. Arnold is very far left, and needs to come right to justify support from conservatives.

I am a big supporter of prop 13 ! The Arnold bashers are sorry to hear that one. I guess Simon is going to have to pull his ad.

Media sucks, he is still taking and they have continued to speak right over him.......Can't hear what he is saying.......
To: Saundra Duffy
Yes, and he added that Warren also lifts weights so he understands these things. ;)
To: dirtboy
Yeah, that is what I need too. Something to show me a reason to support him, other than he is not Davis and not Bustamante. If the voters in California decide on either of those, then that is a clear sign they have not learned anything yet.

Very well said.
What astounds me are the conservatives who say we should let Busttamante win to prove a point. Will they have to live here in CA and suffer through the increasing misery that is already blanketing the state?
To: george wythe
Well, George, I am not sure exactly how those of us who are "conservative" got into this. I guess if you happen to have lived in California all your life, like I have, you just accept the fact that you were born into a difficult situation.
To get out of it? I guess we have to either move out of the State, or wait until things get even worse than they are now.
The opportunity for change may come on the heels of total financial collapse of California and the liberal/socialist/marxist agenda of the Democrat party which has brought us to it's brink.
In the meantime many of us may "shrug."

Fox News reported the other day that 80% of the state budget was guaranteed as a result of successful propositions. So then you cut taxes and bleed those programs that way. And roll back the massive expansion of state government created under Grayout Davis.
