Pancakes on Wednesdays
Yes, we now have banana pancakes....

Welcome to Pancakes on Wednesdays.

Wednesday August 20, 2003

Here is an amalgamation of trivial facts and seemingly useless data.

Do not forget to hit the hyperlinks.

We have links, lots of them.

Look it up!

EDACIOUS

Relating to eating.

That, at least, is the literal sense of the word, since it comes from the Latin verb edere, to eat. But even in Latin it had a stronger sense of voracious consumption and that was carried with it into English. It was brought into the language—surprisingly recently—by classically educated writers at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It never really caught on and is now almost extinct, perhaps because voracious is a better established and more vigorous-sounding alternative. The Roman writer Ovid created a maxim in his Metamorphoses: “Tempus edax rerum.” time devours everything. As a result, in its rare appearances the word is most likely to be linked with time. Thomas Carlyle used it in this way when he referred to events “swallowed in the depths of edacious time.”

Good evening, PigRigger. Long time no see. Hope all is well on your end. That black out must have an ordeal - good to hear you are OK. Kudos to the New Yorkers for being resilient.

It almost makes this cranky old sergeant think twice on how less irredeemable today's youth might be...

Actually, it's not as hopeless as we may think. Majority of the time the media only focuses on the errant youth but there are still so many of them that are on the right track. At least 3 close friends of one of my nephews are in the Military proudly serving their country. Other friends of my nieces and nephews are doing volunteer work for their communities. All is well.

I firmly believe, wait......if I may be so bold as to jump in the middle here....oh heck, here I go.

Ahem.

I firmly believe that the youth of today, for the most part are AWESOME people. It's just that you hear about the stinkers more than the good ones. And THAT'S not right!

Returning you to your regularly scheduled conversation...

Good Night Blessing for the Troops
Blessings on you this evening
May the stars in heaven
light your way into the
Milky Way of dreams

May your day tomorrow
be filled with love
laughter and joy...

Taking away all heart ache
left stinging...
and unclouding your vision
for clear sailing...

Americans, Iraqis defeat blaze

I agree, Kathy, they are all heroes. It's amazing what cooperation can accomplish. This terrorist act may be a setback in the rebuilding of Iraq however, with the Americans and the Iraqis cooperating in this situation will show everyone what can be done when they work together. I hope the rest of the country would take note.

Uhm........where are those environmentalists when you need them.....where is the outrage?

Good evening, Gramma! How be you today?

Speaking of the youth of today, thank goodness for the internet and other sources of news. Otherwise, the rest of us will feel so despondent if we only depend on the mainstream media.

LOL! Thanks for the pancakes, Radix. That will be a good change of diet for my pets. Before long though, I'll end up with "fat" dragons just like tom's fat cats.

LOL! My favorite is this one

A police recruit was asked during an exam, "What would you do if you had to arrest your own mother?" He said, "Call for backup."
