One-sided democracy

I'm just curious about something: why is it OK for a Supreme Court to arbitrarily determine the outcome of future elections by drawing legislative districts himself, despite the fact that the districts are in no way representative of the voting populace, yet it isn't ok for a Supreme Court to say that recounts are unconstitutional, vis a vis Florida? OHHHH, I get it, the Democrats benefit in the former and lose in the latter. Makes perfect sense...

...I think Texas Democrats (the voters) need to wake up. These 11 fugitive lawmakers are shirking their duties, and running up a bill that we, the taxpayers, have to foot. Let me tell you something: if I got pissed of at my job and left the state and refused to come back until I got my way, I would GET FIRED. My bosses would say "OK, don't come back!" We, the voters, are the Boss. These prattling simpletons have absconded, resulting in a dereliction of duties, for which we, the voters, should hang them out to dry.

Can't they issue a warrant and let the bounty hunters go after them? I would like to see that spectacle.

Pretty sure they have... That's why NM state troopers are guarding the hotel... "just in case."

The "Texas 11" need to get over themselves. Nothing like taking part in democracy by taking democracy apart.

Not trying to promote it, just felt like sharing it with freep. I live in Texas, so this has some bearing on me, and I am quite interested in the Dem pansies and what they will do next. They still have CO and LA left to run to.

SOrry, not trying to promote it, just like the site/article.

Well, the "Texas 11" seem to think they are "defending it."

Someone needs to get educated...Remind them that "Democracy" isn't written anywhere in the Constitution... We are a Republic.

I don't disagree. That is the point of the entire argument. We, "the people" elected them, gave them our power, so that they could do the job for us, a "representative republic."

BUt the morons in Ausin (well, New Mexico, for the moment) seem to think that by leaving the state/their jobs, they are somehow serving "the people."

I like the point of the article that it is OK for a judge to determine election results for Democrats, but not for Republicans.

If you have children then you will understand this concept.

Democrats are the spoiled children in government. When they see something they want, they will whine, scream, kick and shout until they get what they want. It is beyond a republican to do this.

I don't have children, but I need not to understand what you are saying. They did it in FL, they are doing it in CA, and they are doing it in TX (not to mention the other smaller incidences).

Seems they are floundering, flailing, treading water while the ship is sinking.

A beautiful thing that is also happening is that some TX Dems are angry that the people they elected ran off like cowards, and I have read several "Letters to the Editors" in which people say that they, and their Dem friends, are so sore about it that they aren't going to vote Dem anymore.

If the Democrats think TX is voting Republican NOW, just WAIT till the next election...

Oh yeah, and also how they tried to play the race card, saying that redistricting will hurt minorities:
"This map completely disenfranchised the minority vote," said Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon, D-San Antonio. "It's sending this state back 100 years."

Also, this was said:
"This week is independence week, and we're going to find out this week whether the Texas Legislature is still independent from the partisans in Washington, D.C.," Rep. Jim Dunnam of Waco, House Democratic Caucus leader, said just before Monday's special session started."
--There you go, bucko. Compare yourself to the Defenders of the Alamo; people that weren't even from THIS STATE and stayed to fight and die for it! A bunch of foreigners stayed to fight for Texas, and you can't even stay to defend your Party? Coward.

And where are the disestablishmentarians, crying for "separation of Church and state"?
-"I've not made up my mind. I'm praying on the issue," said Sen. Frank Madla, D-San Antonio, who said he was in church at 7:30 a.m. Monday. Madla said he is interested in what happens to districts affecting Bexar County, South Texas and West Texas.
