Tell me, you think there is some correlation between deindustrialization and suddenly every town seems to be sprouting "gentlemen's clubs" ? Think of it. A woman who strips knows that she makes herself a lowlife among outcasts with no real chance of respectable marriage. But in a community of working class deindustrialization the respectable people no longer call the shots and few of the men she knows are all that great marital prospects anyway. So while she is still young and her body is firm it means maybe college money or maybe some guy with money will take a fancy to her.

There seems to be no lack of jobs associated with vice now - stripping, porno, gambling...

A real Dickensian America, as the gap between the incomes increases.

I would also attribute the slide to the acceptance of pornography.

The problem is that much of our society is beyond shame.

I very much admire your skill as a posters. All I know is that in my little town, things are turned upside down and honest hard woking people are not respected but thugs are. Very discouraging.

Many of those strippers make more than $1000 in an evening, even at the "low-life" clubs.

I knew many when I was in college; would occasionally pop by the place they worked at for cheap food. They got a chance to sit down for a bit.

Its interesting talking to them about how they work the room, how they keep the regulars coming, etc. This is true unbridled capitalism on the hoof.

It's what happened when the Soviet Union collapsed-- along with its economy. It makes sense that it would happen here. The Soviets had PhD exotic dancers and hookers because there weren't other jobs for them. People need to work-- for themselves and for the income it brings.
