When is the last time you read about a devastating wildfire in say, a Georgia Pacific owned forest in the Southeast or a Boise Cascade owned forest in the Northwest? Doesn't seem to happen, does it? Always seems to happen on or near federally owned forests, the very same one subject to environmentalist wacko restrictions on clearing underbrush, making forest fire breaks or building roads.
Marxism is bad for the environment. The worst environmental degradations of free enterprise pale in comparison to the fruits of Marxism-- denuded forests in Romania, dying lakes in the former Soviet Union, lethal air and flooded farmlands in China, etc., etc.

To meet this challenge, I pledge to spend $4.9 billion, over five years, on needed work and maintenance in our national park areas. What's another couple billion here or there right?

CNN was the only cable channel carrying the President's speech. I wonder if that's usual?
I think I'm surprised he didn't mention the black-out.
But why bother....President Bush can tout his environmental programs all he likes, the far left green fringed democrats will continue to attack him for raping the earth to benefit his rich oil friends. That's just the way it is, but the other day, a ray of hope. Larry Sabato on FOXNews predicted the environmentalists will have a hard time campaigning against Bush's energy plan after the black out. Sabato said the Alaska pipeline still might not pass, but he thought Bush would have the upper hand against Senate Democrats on the rest of his package.

This is an excellent reply that should be thrown in the faces of the Watermelon Enviral Jihadists whenever we have a fire due to their management of a forest. You posted"

Seeing our president down in the trench, working up a sweat, shoveling dirt like a common coolie makes me think of Jimmie Karter carrying his suit bag out of the presidential helicopter.
I'm not impressed.
Nor am I impresssed by a president who throws billions here and billions there when the nation is bankrupt and its citizenry overtaxed!

He doesn't do that to impress you or anyone else. It's what he likes to do, period. And he's doing it on his vacation, btw ...

What's another couple billion here or there right?I guess you don't believe in painting your house either, right? That land belongs to all of us and it needs to be maintained properly. It's not only our responsibility, it's a point of pride that we do it. IT'S OURS!!!!
