Judge threatens to delay election

A San Jose federal judge late Friday threatened to halt California's first-ever gubernatorial recall vote unless the federal government can ensure that minority voters won't be left out of the political process.

U.S. District Court Judge Jeremy Fogel issued a temporary restraining order preventing Monterey County from proceeding with its preparations because its election plan has not been reviewed by the U.S. Department of Justice, a requirement for certain counties where the voting rights of minorities have been violated in the past. The statewide election could not proceed unless voters in all counties can participate. [snipped]

Specifically, Fogel barred the county from mailing absentee ballots to overseas voters, the next step in its preparations.

But civil rights attorneys, who have said the speedy election violates the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and have sought to postpone the election to the March presidential primary, praised the judge's order.

As I understand it, the submission for approval from the US Justice Department concerns the four counties, but has ALREADY BEEN REQUESTED FOR THEM BY STATE OFFICIALS. The only step left to be performed is the Justice approval. You can bet your bottom dollar that Ashcroft will make certain that occurs -- and at that point, even the Clinton-appointed judge will have to dismiss the cases, in line with his own prior decision.

It was the second major announcement in two days for the actor. On Wednesday, the campaign said billionaire investor Warren Buffett would be a financial adviser.

Buffett and Shultz will be joint co-chairs of the economic council. The appointments of Buffett, a Democrat, and Republican Shultz reflect the campaign's attempt to assemble a diverse and bipartisan team.

I cannot find a written report anywhere that Buffett is the SOLE "senior financial and economic advisor."

If you have proof somewhere, I'd like to see it.

Nor have I seen anywhere that Buffett's position is for a possible administration, and not just for the campaign.

So far, all I'm seeing is the media fixating on the names most likely to piss off Republicans.

What about all of the illegals who have been voting all along. People working in the Dept. of motor vehicles were told 10 years ago to ignore phony identification cards carried by illegals. Time to show birth certificates plus citizenship papers at the voting booths.

Buffett has NOT been removed and I see NO statements regarding his actions from Arnold.
