It's on a pay-site. Some freeper will post it later after it hits the newsgroups.

This is a GREAT news item.

A one-time heavyweight boxing champ and soldier in the British colonial army, Amin seized power on Jan. 25, 1971, overthrowing President Milton Obote while he was abroad.

Don King seized power on Jan 26, 1971 while the champ was with abroad.

Amin, meanwhile, moved into a luxury house in the Red Sea port city of Jiddah, with cars, drivers, cooks and maids paid for by the Saudi government. He would occasionally telephone journalists abroad to announce fantastical schemes to reconquer Uganda, or to protest against cuts in his gasoline allowance. But the Saudis got angry and made him stop. In a rare interview in 1999, Amin told a Ugandan newspaper he liked to play the accordion, fish, swim, recite from the Quran and read.

Actually, the Saudis "got angry and made him stop" the accordian playing and shirtless swimming.

Obote once called Amin "the greatest brute an African mother has ever brought to life."

Apparently Obote never watched the kid who played "Boy" in the Weismuller Tarzan flicks act.

President Jimmy Carter said events in Uganda during Amin's rule "disgusted the entire civilized world."

As brother Billy Carter, behind the President, proceeded to disgust the entire civilized world by publicly urinating on one of the bushes in the White House Rose Garden.

I'm trying to remember why Amin attained such a high profile in a Continent where brutal butchering, genocide, corruption, rape and disease-ridden pestilence is known as "Saturday Night." He did have two redeeming qualities over someone like, say, Mohamar Khadaffi: First, he never killed anyone he didn't at least plan to eat. Second, when he made himself supreme Military ruler of all Ugandans, he took a higher rank than "Colonel".

Why would the Saudis house this guy, half his wives, and his 22 kids who look a lot like Jesse Jackson and Andrew Young, in fully-comped comfort for 27 years? If the Saudi Royal Family keeps up this level of amoral decadence, sexual depravity, financial fraud and despotic control over all media and political power centers ... they could someday be worse than the Kennedys.

Can Amin's death bring back a dead thread? You accurately reported this event two weeks ago.

Laz, if this guy weighed 250 lbs in his 30 something Alpha Male prime, he's pushing Nadler/Brando/Chicks from "Facts of Life" level tonnage at just-before-dead state. They kept him alive on life support for a month just so they could slim him down enough fit him out the door. There'll be no Pali-style parades hoisting his carcass through the streets. Maybe as a ESPN-2 "World's Strongest Man" event ... even the guys named Magnus are gonna go "I not gonna try to leeeft dat."

You could throw him in the Nile and the Crocs would go "How we gonna eat all this?"

His mother was a self-proclaimed sorceress of the Lugbara tribe and he was in his 30's before he had regular contact with his peasant father...

His mother was a sorcerss, his father was the Devil.

Rough recounting from Top Secret:

"My name is Hillary, it means she whose bosom defies gravity."

"My name is Nick."

"Nick? What does that mean?"

"I don't know, my father thought of it while shaving."

I don't know if I'd want to have regular contact with THAT KID 30 years after abandoning him and his mother. Somehow I think he'd be contacting me as a barely alive torture kit or a not-alive body sectioned collectable/keepsake.
