Schwarzenegger Outcome Could Affect Bush in 2004 (McClintock & Simon to quit?)

In the best scenario for Bush, Davis is ousted, Schwarzenegger triumphs with a united Republican vote and California's bleak fiscal situation begins to improve. With the governorship in popular Republican hands, the state's 54 electoral votes, once a lost cause for the GOP, could come within Bush's grasp in 2004.
Alternatively, if Schwarzenegger's candidacy implodes, it could leave the Republicans without an obvious candidate to face reinvigorated Democrats.
Don't expect Bush to say that publicly, however. Bush aides believe that appearing to meddle would backfire and boost Democrats' efforts to link the California recall to the Florida recount. Still, California Republicans say, lawmakers and others tied to the White House have been putting what one called "heavy pressure" on Simon and McClintock to drop out -- and one GOP strategist close to the White House expects one or both to quit.

Cruz is a non factor Cruz will get the major share of dem votes.
New voters may reduce that percentage. Still, it will be 30 to near 50%.

......I don't think hiring Buffett is a sign of being pro-business. Even Gray Davis wants to repeal his stupid workers' comp bill.......
........On the other hand, there is no evidence he's sold his soul, you're right.........
I will take him at his word till proven otherwise, that is the first thing he said had to change in California...Buffet may or may not be bad for business, remember most corporations are businesses and Buffet invests heavily in corporations...
As for Davis wanting to repeal his workers comp, there are lots of things he probably would like to do over again, but then again I think he is so dense he doesn't have a clue...
signed by Davis:
http://www.dir.ca.gov/dwc/AB749.htm yes davis wants reform..now
http://sanjose.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2003/08/11/story1.html "The worker's comp system has grown from $9 billion in 1999 to what is likely to be $29 billion this year, according to the state Department of Insurance."
Legislation signed into law by Mr. Davis in February 2002, an election year for him, was supposed to have put a lid on big cost increases, while making benefits more generous.
But that legislation has had little effect on the premiums that businesses are paying.
Who was at the helm when this happened?DAVIS

"Cruz will get the major share of dem votes.

I agree that Cruz will get the major share of Dem votes. But I think that new voters will be voting for Bustamente -- all the Hispanic voters, who normally don't vote. Not to mention all the illegal Mexican voters. Don't forget how Loretta Sanchez "beat" Bob Dornan. I bet the Dems are already signing up the Hispanic voters, they are just not advertising it. A lot of people underestimate the Democrats, although I don't see how they could, when historically the Dems will try every dirty trick in the book and come up with some new ones. That is why a Republican unity behind the only Republican candidate who has a chance against the Dems, Arnold, is very important for us to have a chance at winning, instead of being outshuffled by the Dems.

I don't think a governor has anything to do with how a state votes for president. Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware and New Mexico all had Republican governors in 2000. Minnesota and Maine had independents. All 14 of those states voted Democratic.
To: jfritsch
Because TMcC & BS have ZERO chance of actually winning, but a significant chance of pulling away just enough votes from Arnold, so Bustamante would squeak in. If you think Davis was a disaster, you ain't seen nothing yet, just watch what happens to CA under Bustamante.
Considering that I actually live here, I don't want to find out what CA would be like under Bustamante.

Don't forget how Loretta Sanchez "beat" Bob Dornan yes yes yes and yes.
Cruz' percent will be higher than last polled thanks to this factor.
Even if later shown to be illegal, it will never affect the outcome.
Republicans better get it together or we will lose what should be a slam dunk.

"I don't think a governor has anything to do with how a state votes for president." Not true in CA and especially where Arnie is concerned.
1. Forces the dems to spend major money in CA that could be spent eleswhere in '04.
2. Resulting negative impact on shrillaries bid for the WH in '04 or '08 .
3. Arnie as a major fundraiser for the GOP....keynote speaker at the NY convention next year.

Are you aware that Arnold now has Buffet
open advocate of higher taxes and spending
and Clinton as friend as Senior Adviser?
Do you care at all that Arnold will be
the same as Davis on everything?
Or would you support Davis if he is a Republican.
And if Arnold wins a Liberal will control the
California Republican party leaving conservatives
voiceless. And even the Repubican party would
then treat consevative views with contempt.
To: america-rules
I see, you are sure that Bush could never win California, but you belive firmly that McClintock could?
Please explain the logic.
To: FairOpinion
I supported this recall from day 1 and I am from Illinois. McClintock is my grandparents State Senator and I like the guy and support him 100%. However, he and Simon have no chance in hell to win and the GOP should get behind Arnold.
Simon ran a hideous campaign and lost to Red Davis when it should have been a blowout. I have no respect for Bill Simon because he is a moron for losing to Red Davis in the first place.
McClintock is a great guy but doesn't have a chance because most Californians have no clue who he is. The big issue is the illegal immigration problem (and we have it here in Illinois too!!!). If Cruz Bustamante gets elected then we are in serious trouble because he would make it even easier for illegals to get in and get a free ride, whereas Arnold voted for Prop 187.
Red Davis pandered to the illegal immigrants and Cruz Bustamante would be worse. Most of the budget deficit is due to the money being given to illegals who sneak across the border and breed like rabbits. They have to be stopped and we need someone with the cajones to kick the illegals from Mexico out and stop the aid that is given to them.

Give it a rest! I am Mom with three kids!
You are right! I do want Simon out now -- he didn't deserve another shot and it has nothing to do with him being conservative. McClintock is another story -- don't have a problem there.
Do have a huge problem with some of the comments being made on here that puts the Freepers that support Arnold in a class of either moderates or liberals or the best one is RINO's. Am a lifelong Republican who grew up with an Uncle that was very active in the Ohio Republican Party -- learned at an early age that you get in politics to win not be a spoiler.
Was also taught by my parents to stand up for what I believed and if that is being masculine so be it! I would rather be that way that some whiner! But you see I don't consider that a masculine trait -- I consider that being the fact that as a woman I don't feel I have to apologize for my beliefs. Does that bother you?
