FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GOVERNOR DAVIS ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH LEGISLATION 08/13/2003

Bills Reduce Teen Pregnancy; Make Emergency Contraception Available At Pharmacies

SACRAMENTO Governor Gray Davis today announced his intention to sign a package of five bills regarding issues affecting the reproductive health of women. "Since 1983, I have been a staunch supporter of reproductive freedom and the ability of women to obtain high quality, low cost, reproductive health care services in a safe setting," Gov. Davis said. "These bills further that goal; we will allow women greater access to emergency contraception and help reduce the incidence of teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections."

SB 71 by Senator Sheila Kuehl (D-Santa Monica) ensures that students receiving sex education in schools are given accurate information on abstinence, human sexuality, contraception, pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections in an age appropriate manner.

SB 490 by Senator Dede Alpert (D-San Diego) establishes a uniform statewide protocol approved by the Medical Board of California and the Board of Pharmacy for emergency contraception.

SB 545 by Senator Jackie Speier (D-Hillsborough) limits the fee a pharmacist can charge for dispensing emergency contraception to $10, thereby making this emergency contraception more affordable for the uninsured. SB 545 also requires emergency contraception training for pharmacists to a minimum of one hour.

AB 561 by Assemblymember Sally Lieber (D-Mountain View) establishes in statute the Male Involvement Program, the Community Challenge Grant Program, the TeenSMART Program and the Information and Education Program within the Office of Family Planning at the Department of Health Services. The various program goals are to reduce teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections through counseling, outreach and educational services.

AB 996 by Assemblymember Patricia Wiggins (D-Santa Rosa) prohibits insurers from canceling or refusing to renew a property insurance policy due to claims arising from anti-reproductive hate crimes. AB 996 also prohibits an insurer from imposing an excessive or unfairly discriminatory premium because the facility has been the victim of a hate crime.

For those of you who think the nasty "social issues" have nothing to do with who becomes the new governor, here's an example of the things Davis signed today.

As I said on Rush's show this morning, if (God forbid) Liberal Arnold becomes governor, this is the first stuff they are going to send him -- piles of it. And make no mistake, he's on the wrong end of all of it. The guns and gays will be in the mix too.

What the hell is emergency contraception?

Does it mean, "Oh crap, I'm naked, about to have sex and forgot my diaphram?" "Emergency!"

I've never heard the term.

{AB 996...prohibits insurers from canceling or refusing to renew a property insurance policy due to claims arising from anti-reproductive hate crimes}

Only in California would abortion mills be regarded as a protected class worthy of special rights. Ridiculous.

Emergency contraception is when doctors tear babies from their mother's bellies and kill them so that the mothers can keep on keepin' on.

"An anti reproductive hate crime"? There has to be some really twisted language there!

In reality does she mean a crime committed in attempting to thwart the murder on a not yet born baby?

I'm not sure if that bill's wording contains like a tripple negative or maybe even a quad negative?

I don't even think that anti reproductive hate crime can really mean anything using the english language?

I doubt he would sign any of the listed bills. It is one thing to be "pro-choice" and another to subsidize the choice to abort with taxpayer dollars and price controls on "morning after" pills. Also, it's fine to urge fathers to be involved, but another to have a big ol' taxpayer-funded government program to "see to it" that such involvement happens.

We'll be learning more about Arnold in the weeks ahead, I'm sure. It's fair to ask these sorts of questions, and to worry. But I'm not drawing any conclusions yet -- and my #1 goal on October 7 is Democrat Prevention.

What you didn't point out, perhaps because it's just so nakedly obvious, is that once again we see Gray parading his willingness to sign legislation for which he never pushed until his neck was on the line. His only hope is to run, to sprint, even further to the Left than ever before.

I'm concerned about the things Davis is going to sign into law before he leaves.

SO concerned. I've got a little boy growing up here...as do alot of us have kids & grandkids.

Hannity, fwiw, has Flynnt (sp) on now. I turned it off, as soon as I heard what it was. This is SO disgusting.

Here's another one I can't figure based on accepted meanings of the english language....."Emergency contraception will reduce teen pregnancy" Now emergency contraception means you've already concieved! Now how can you reduce teen conception in teens who have concieved? If you have not concieved, there is no emergency is there? The word contraception means to not concieve, so how can you have an emergency not concieving?

That is the myth of the "pro-choice" position. We are all expected to think like that, but I have never met a so-called pro-choice politician who wasn't 100% supportive of all abortion all the time at taxpayer expense -- Republicans included.

Pete Wilson loved abortion as much as Davis and if you read todays news, his team are taking over Arnold's campaign lock, stock and barrell. Arnold also announced that his top economic advisor will be Warren Buffet who is a major benefactor of Planned Parenthood.

If you think that anyone in that crowd is going to hesitate for a moment over abortion bills like these, you are badly mistaken.

What the hell is emergency contraception?

It's a euphamism for early-term abortion.

Specific Attributes of Doublespeak

* misleads
* distorts reality
* pretends to communicate
* makes the bad seem good
* avoids or shifts responsibility
* makes the negative appear positive
* creates a false verbal map of the world
* limits, conceals, corrupts, and prevents thought
* makes the unpleasant appear attractive or tolerable
* creates incongruity between reality and what is said or not said

Using doublethink, a person could hold two opposing ideas in his or her mind at the same time, fully believing in both ideas. "Newspeak" was the official language used to express the ideas of doublethink.

Emergency Contraception must fall in the category of "Newspeak".

I thought California was broke. This stuff costs money. Why should taxpayers have to subsidize this if they don't agree with it?

Is everyone nuts on the left coast?

Am I now going to suppose the Democrats are supporting Davis by somehow implying that replacing Davis will result in the limiting of on demand abortion?

Let the prisons empty, your uterus fill, your wallet empty, and your garbage pile high........The democrat scare!

Oooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I get it!

Davis is SCRAMBLING to make sure his press releases are now emphasizing "reproductive choice" and "freedom" .... all in a sudden.

Funny that stressing easy teen abortions (through drug stores counter sales ... and a whole host of democrat new legistlation!) is going to protect teens - but kill baies.
