Seems none of my virus protection picks out any virus. Does anyone know how to stop this annoying popup.

Don't push the button. Get ZoneAlarm instead.

Close all programs on your PC, make sure nothing is in the taskbar at the bottom.

Close items in the system tray in the bottom right.

I thought you were talking about something else. However, it sounds like you have spyware on your computer. There are several programs that can find and eliminate the program. I use Macs mostly, so am not really familiar with any of them. I'm sure you'll hear about them, though.

Once you've done that, halt the system with CTL-ALT-DEL.

Look at the list of running items and tell us here what you've found.

The Privacy feature in Zone Alarm blocks all pop-ups. It's wonderful.

I use a blunt instrument to stop popups. I disable java and scripts and other stuff till they go away. I don't know the exact stuff I turn off, but I don't get any popups at all.

That means that some web sites don't work. But FR works fine, and most other sites. If there's just something necessary I need, I've got another computer I bring up and do just those webs sites.

Attn Web developers: if you want people to use your site, then figure out how to live without the features that allow popups to run.

CTL-ALT-DEL does not show anything unusual.

There are new fangled annoying programs called "spyware" that find their way onto your pc. They are little .exe files that talk to their leaders and find ways to hassle you. I found a free program online called seek and destroy that finds all the known spybots on your pc and rubs em out. Took care of the problem. At home, I use zone alarm, as others have mentioned, which is a great little program, but I am not sure it'll clean up whats already there. For that you might want to consider seek and destroy. Google search seek and destroy spyware and you should find it.
