Contact DirecTV--Using Laurence Fishburne In Ads
Has anyone noticed the DirecTV ads featuring their new spokesperson Laurence Fishburne (Artists for Winning Without War Signee)? We feel it is our duty to inform this company that their choice of Mr. Fishburne is a poor one. Most Americans will be offended at seeing this anti-American on their TV sets since he chose to oppose our country's efforts vs Iraq. By lending his support to the anti-war movement, his actions emboldened our enemies both abroad and here at home. We will not support this actor since he is unwilling to support his country.

My letter to them (feel free to copy and paste):
Dear DirecTV:
I notice your company is employing Artists for Winning Without War Signee Laurence Fishburne as your new spokesperson on your TV ads. Just so you know, Mr. Fishburne chose to side against his country's efforts to protect itself from the threat of terrorism.
I, for one, will not even consider switching from cable to your service as long as you are employing this anti-American actor. I advise you to reconsider your choice as it will surely hurt potential sales for your company.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong,is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.

Did John Goodman sign that as well? He is also doing commercials for DirecTV.
I can't stand him - Mr. Sensitive Hollywood Liberal's hateful mocking of Linda Tripp's weight and looks on SNL has to be a good case study for a shrink about self-loathing hypocrites. Does he not own a mirror?

I'm not surprised that Laurence Fishburne is a liberal and against the war, as about 95% of big Hollywood actors clearly are. But I haven't actually heard him speak openly on the subject, and he doesn't strike me as a virulent America-hater type like Danny Glover clearly is. I certainly could be wrong though, if I am I'd like to know.

If we single out every actor/actress that said anything "negative" about the Iraqi war, then honestly, there wouldn't be anyone left to watch! Or at least very few. Like jpl said, Lawrence Fishburne and Danny Glover are worlds apart in their "anti-Americanism". Danny Glover is a world class racist and dupe for the Democratic party line; my feeling about Fishburne is simply that he "went along" with the anti-war stance simply because it WAS so popular in Hollywood.
Doesn't say much about his intelligence of course, but hey, how many actors are REALLY smart anyway? I like Laurence Fishburne as an actor; I think he makes really good movies. I don't want to have to deny myself the pleasure of seeing him on screen, simply because he "went along with the crowd".

Oh get off Larry, he has done his time, I mean after all he served with the current president (martin sheen) in viet nam. Also he was killed in "band of the hand"

Very Good quote! I think some of us in America need to adjust our thinking when it comes to 'protesters.' Everyone has a right to critize the President and his job, or the war, or television, or movies, or actors. What we must learn to distinquish is when the person is making a
personal attack.
Many have attacked the President, personally, and in public, about his character and such, which is not right. Not everyone will, or has to, agree with what a President does, but they should offer respect.
Now the military is a different story. Our people are in a foreign land, taking great risks, obeying orders, no matter how they feel about the decision made to be there. We need to give them all of our support. Critize the fact that war is not pretty, critize bad rulers of oppresse people; but not our military.
I don't see much difference between some of those people and some of the people here at Free Republic. We all need to learn to separate the two. I won't boycott everyone who opposes the war, but if I hear them bashing the President, personnally and in public, or our military, then they go on my list.

(As soon as tomkow laid eyes on this tagline, he had to have it.)

Well said! People like the Dixie chicks and Danny Glover have taken it too far and the American public didn't appreciate this at all.

hey, can't argue with a president (giggle...giggle).
But seriously he was very wise to point that out.
I think I will keep that quote handy. I've seen much need for it here at Free Republic.

Calling someone "anti-American" because they opposed the war is unfair and wrong.
