dear sistahs and friends...what a bittersweet day today. As many of you know my 81 year old previously VERY active dad is in early stages of Alizheimers. 77 year old still very active mother (who has always been very dependent on dad) is struggling with it...trying to "find a cure" and "fix him".

We're staying at the summer place dad had built 29 years ago...his dream getaway. Now he shows limited interest

He's always had a special bond with Mr. D. and today...they together fixed a bunch of sprinkler heads (with dad actively involved)...then fished with us...actually went out and played 9 holes of golf (he only played seven BUT drove the cart) AND...sigh...we took the pontoon boat to dinner and dad actually drove it home and docked it (with coaxing from Mr. D.) He has not driven the boat in two years (mom never has) so they are pretty much dependent on company to go out on the lake. He was as proud as could be...mom (and I) were in tears.

Thanks for letting me go on...This is a day I'll always remember....

Just saw your post, dutchess, and grieve with and for you.
Saw my mother last when I was 27; gone just 4 years later when I was in Alaska.

After we got out of service my Dad was near - but before long had to be placed in a nursing home, with me the (legally) parent - him the child, and he went to be with Mom in 1976.

I fully understand your sorrow and the few joys of this day.

Lori...thanks so much for making this thread virtually a breeze for Giz...(AND ME!) All Giz did was munch on food as Bear did all the talking...you developed and edited the pictures...AND did all the dialogue! Gosh...all I had to do was insert the text...something that took hours and sweat and tears last February (right Billie) Hopefully I've got that part down. Night all...
