I never said legalizing pot will solve those problems with alcohol. However, just off the top of my head, legalizing drugs will reduce the Federal Budget by billions, get rid of drug dealers since they won't be able to make money off illegal drugs, free up jail space for real criminals, and allow cops to spend time going after those real criminals.

...legalizing drugs will reduce the Federal Budget by billions...You have the key right there. That simple statement creates fear and panic among a large number of our government employees. Having a solution to the so called drug problem would cause many people to find another line of work. Government officials wouldn't have justification for ignoring the bill of rights. Anything that would really solve the "drug problem" would cause havoc in our country.
