Predatory black bear attacks are extremely rare,

They were rare, when humans used to shoot them.

Those that weren’t shot had plenty of food to eat and realized that people were not good prey, considering that they often carried those boomy things that hurt when you got near them.

Now, they’re everywhere, they’re very hungry, and they don’t fear dopey humans.

Despite these encounters, the DEP says bear incidents in New Jersey are down from last year. Nuisance and damage complaints have dropped, from 1,069 in 2002 to 784 this year during the same period. The DEP figures may not include all incidents reported to local police agencies.

This incident brings to mind "The Summer of the Shark" and how the Media disregarded the statistics in favor of sensationalizing the attacks. It'll be interesting to see if this story gets amplified.

I'm surprised she wasn't cited by authorities for enticing the wildlife as a potential meal.

"Predatory black bear attacks are extremely rare, and I've never heard of one quite like this, in which someone punches or elbows the bear and is able to get up and run,"

Run and hide behind a tree, where a hungry, predatory bear was unable to find her? And she had only a couple of welts? This doesn't quite pass the smell test, IMHO.

When I was younger I worked on a ranch. The old vet that they used always claimed that the majority of humans attacked by animals were menstruating females. He said that hogs especially were liable to attack, but also dogs and bears.

I also remember reading info for hiking in the back-country in Montana/Idaho that said something similar.

Three days after the Sparta attack, a West Milford man was injured when he jumped on a bear that was fighting with his dog.

Now here is a dude I'd rather not meet in a dark alley.

For the next few months the bears will be roaming far and wide to gather enough food for their long hibernation.

""This bear was in predatory mode," said Jack Kaskey, a state Department of Environmental Protection spokesman. "This was classic predatory behavior. The bear was out to eat her. She had to fight for her life."

Bush pigs never go after a human as a meal. This guy is full of it. She ran, so the bear took off after her. If you run, they chase. If he was really hungry, or mad, the forearm to the nose would have resulted in a quicker start to the meal.

Genesis 9:3
Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants.

Man:
Kill the humans (abortion) and save the Bears, the spotted owls, the Canadian Geese and the whales and don't crack that turtle egg!! Otherwise you WILL go to jail!

You can get fined up to $10,000 for messing with those eggs and baby-killing physicians get paid government and private money $$$ to kill humans! Go figure.

The Endangered Species Act of 1973

Page 4 Sec 3 (c)(8) don't crack those eggs, one might end the "life" of a bird, fish or turtle. I guess certain "mammals" (humans) do not apply.

http://profs.lp.findlaw.com/endanger/endanger_6.html

The Govt. recognizes that a fertilized egg from an animal is "alive" and protected by LAW (The Endangered Species Act of 1973) and when in a human, in God's image, it's just a blob of "unlive" protoplasm which can be aspirated if it's the mother's "choice" to do so with no protections under the 5th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution. And whatever you do, DON'T SHOOT THAT POOR BEAR!!
