I have not cast anyone as a RINO (except Arnold) just because they support Arnold. I am just a little perplexed that Arnold gets all this support, when we do not know where he stands on anything.

I can tell you that when Arnold announced I was thrilled, and I stayed up to watch him on Jay in which he was great. I think it is good that he has the meaningless speeches part down, but what about when he is actually asked a question? Will he look good, or like a fool?

Just wondering...

Yup. On today's show Rush noted Arnold's NOT a conservative. That much is clear. But what's also clear is Arnold, unlike the liberals, doesn't pretend to someone he's not. Use that knowledge to decide who you vote for on Oct. 7th.

Arnold's a moderate Republican. He's honest about who he is. The other side would like him to be an eevil right winger and look who's hitting below the belt when they get desperate. Why, its our old friends - the Democrats!!!

True enough. The Democratic politicians have been on the public payroll virtually their entire lives. Its hard to see how Arnold could make things worse than they are already.

Yes, I remember FReeping with you to support Mr.B. and to "Dump Davis" - and yes, I agree that there is some danger that the Gray Davis slime machine will find something extraordinarily bad about Arnold.
Still, it was a PLEASURE to watch "Conan the Barbarian" play the media like a violin - including the complete sandbagging of two of MY favorites: Hugh Hewitt and Matt Drudge - with his "head fake" announcement on Jay Leno - which simultaneously kept his only serious competition (Dianne Feinstein) out of the recall race, AND generated HUGE AMOUNTS of positive media attention for his candidacy.
I would like to believe that this masterful "strategery" was not an isolated incident, and that "Team Arnold" already has several more HUGELY SUCCESSFUL SURPRISES scheduled for the balance of this campaign.

As a Californian who will vote in the recall election, my opinion will have , (at least), the weight of one vote.

In California, I watched in 1992 how Mullholland smeared Hertshoson(sp?) with a ridiculous lie, & caused enough conservative stay home to elect Boxer.

In 1998, Matt Fong reached out to Gays, & enough conservatives thought that he was no good because of that, & they stayed home, reelecting Boxer.

In 2000, Feinstein was reelected because her opponent, Tom Campbell, favored letting a woman decide if she wanted to have an abortion, & enough conservatives thought he was no good because of that, & stayed home.

In 2002 Conservatives got their man as a candidate for governor, Bill Simon, ( I voted for him in the primary, & the general election ) but he couldn't pull enough non conservatives, & he lost.

So now it's 2003, & we have a chance to turn things around.
So I'll ask all conservatives, if it's a week before the election, & McClintok and or Simon haven't closed the gap with Arnold, will you stand with us, so that we may WIN!

And put and end to Davis reign of terriers! ( mispelling deliberate)

1. AS can win. The others in the race who would make acceptable governors --Bill Simon, Tom McClintock, and Peter Ueberroth-- cannot marshall enough votes to top the almost certain 25 to 30% that Cruz Bustamante will roll up. Objectivity matters a great deal here, and even if AS hadn't gotten into the race, the presence of more than one "movement" candidate dooms them all. Period. End of story. Arguing this point doesn't change the facts on the ground.

Agreed!

Sure go ahead and ask. But tell your pals in the interim to stop hectoring us, and positing that "we" are psephological self defeating unappeasible idiots, in the meantime. That contention is simply ludicrous. Thnaks.

No lefty has ever loved America, nor succeeded in real world business.

Ever hear of Armand Hammer, Stallone? How about Bill Gates? Warren Buffett?

Just because a guy makes a fortune doesn't mean his politics are right-of-center.

And what, exactly, is your definion of a purist?

Are you saying that what I wrote about the self defeating attitudes of the conservative wing of the Cal GOP in the last decade is incorrect?

And who are my pals? I don't hang with any clique here, what I do is lurk.

And if the situation was reversed, & Arnold crashed in the polls, I would stand with whoever had the best chance of regaining the Governorship for the GOP

What I want is to beat the rats, ok

Hugh Hewitt: I go to Free Republic every day, probably 20 times.

I bet you that I've heard every major story first on Free Republic, except for 9/11 (I was broadcasting on 9/11 while it happened). Now there are some nuts at Free Republic, some absolute off the wall goofballs. I always warn my listeners and friends in the blogosphere that you have to learn to work that site to avoid the goofballs, but in terms of having thousands people looking for news and posting it, it is far, far, faster than any of the news services...

Quite incorrect IMO. To suggest that Pubbies have been losing in California statewide elections because their candidates have been right wing nutters, is clearly incorrect. It is much more complex than that. As one example, Simon lost not so much because he was too right wing, but because he had an annoying manner, was too superficial and generalized, and made some serious campaign mistakes, and was caught trying to lie his way out of a position he took, and then denied taking, regarding some gay issue.

And say all of that, as one who takes some moderate, and some liberal, positions, on some issues, along with some "hard right" ones. Like many Californians, I am all over the map, and not really very boxable.

I have to agree with Torie. I'm a fair piece to the right of him, but I've voted the GOP nominee in every race from 1992 on.

Unfortunately all of the Senatorial, Gubernatorial, and Presidential campaigns after 1994 have had zombie strategists, and the semblance of sentience fools no swing voters. It misses the mark to blame conservatives for lackluster candidates and campaigns that fail to capture the imagination, particularly when those campaigns had the RNC stamp of approval / kiss of death.

I've got some more thoughts about the subject over here.

" Quite incorrect IMO. To suggest that Pubbies have been losing in California statewide elections because their candidates have been right wing nutters, is clearly incorrect."

I don't know how you got that out of what I said about the conservative wing of the GOP finding enough fault with
the candidate to give the election to the rats in 3 of the examples I gave.

As to Simon & the 2002 election, disatisfaction with Davis,
should have allowed any republican that could appeal to the center, & to disgusted dems to win.

Simon was unable to do that.

But let's talk about my challenge ok?

Here it is, if at the start of the last week of the recall campaign the candidate of your choice, or my choice
is lagging the leader of the pack of republicans, by double digits, will you vote for the leading republican candidate, so as to beat the Democrats?

I will, if McClintock or Simon is the leader, they will get my vote.

Why, because I want the democrats out of power in the statehouse.

What will you do?
