Danette, he has to install the windows patch. The problem is that unless he has a fast connection, his computer will shut down before it downloads.
Here's what to do: (I got this from a poster named Antigrok at a site called the Tech Support Guy, a great site)
Run services.msc
In the right hand list, right click on "remote procedure call" and select "properties."
Click on the "recovery" tab.
Change first, second and subsequent failures to "Take No Action."
Click Apply, then OK.
Now you can download the security patch, which is available here:

Don't forget to go back to services.msc and change the settings to "Reboot the Computer."

Thank you! I am having the same problem, although it seems to have abated for the time being. I changed everything to "Take no Action" so I could download a trial of PC-Cillin without it rebooting and I'll download the patch as soon as it is done.
Thank you again.

Thank you. I have a slow dial up and the virus kept shutting down my computer before I could even read the helpful posts (the others were so frustrating because I had to read fast.) It shuts down in one minute.
How does one get this virus?
Thanks again,
LL

What is services.msc? And where do I find it on my computer?
Thanks, Axel

I've been struggling with the same problem for 2 days, finally figured it out last night and tried to download the patch repeatedly. I finally was able to save the patch and get it into place and now my system is running beautifully again.
Thanks for everyone's advice and expertise on this thread, my problem was solved but it really helps to understand what was happening :-)
