Prayer Request for A Tiny Baby (Update in post #12850)
Myself | 8-11-03 | Brad's Gramma

Posted on 08/11/2003 12:57:30 PM PDT by Brad’s Gramma

If you will, please remember this tiny baby in your prayers. He’s the grandson of a very dear friend of mine. Logan was born on July 25. His due date was in October, making his mommy 26 weeks along, being born 3 months and 3 days early.

Logan was 1 lb 9.4 oz when he was born and is now weighing, as of this morning, 1 lb. 8.3 oz. The little guy is now 12-1/2” long.

He’s a real trooper and is fighting with all his little body can fight with. His Grandma said that he’s starting to recognize his mommy when she comes in the room and hears her voice. She said he tries so hard to open his eyes, and starts kicking his feet.

I asked my friend if there were any specific prayers, other than the obvious…and this is her reply…” A prayer of thanks for the miracle called "Logan.”

On a personal note, I’ve read the emails daily from my friend. I’ve known her for years, I’ve heard her talking about her family for years…but I’ve got to tell you that I’m SO impressed with how her children have all banded together in support. What an incredibly wonderful and loving family.

Father God, we lift up Logan’s little body to you. We pray that you can strengthen him hourly, daily, weekly, until he’s grown enough to go home with his precious family. We ask for guidance for the doctors and nurses who are caring for him. We ask for strength for his parents and extended family. Thank you so much for the gift of life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

Fellow Freepers…….I bring you Logan!!!

What a little angel! She is beautiful!

I could only see the one picture of Beth in her carseat. Maybe you can repost Kathryn’s later.

Kathryn wanted to be Mommy fed!

Prayers continue for their health and wellbeing.

"...she's up to it."

I'll bet she is too. : )

I'm glad to hear that she is feeling better, and back to being herself (and still pullin' Grandpa's leg in the process, it seems.) *chuckle*
I always hate it when the little ones are under the weather and feeling bad.

Best of all, is that she was back to herself for the homecoming!

Probably. For a while they have only been allowing her one "Mommy" every two feedings, possibly so that she'll get more of the high calorie supplement. Which is mixed with pumped "real thing" anyway.

Or will be. She's about 4-4 1/2 hours by Interstate, from her little sisters, with Grandma. She'll get to see them on Friday. Even though she's been told, and seen the pictures (but not the ones with Mommy and Daddy!) I don't think she really understands about the babies yet. She does say their names, so maybe she understands more than I think.

That’s very wise, I think. I still remember my parents bringing our youngest sister home from the hospital. We sat on the front steps waiting for them. We were so excited that God had given us a baby sister, and felt very important to get to actually sit back in the big arm chair and have her in our laps.

I remember going to the hospital to see my baby brother, I was 6.I was told they didn't let kids even on the same floor, but Dad sneaked me in, or so he said. In truth the nursery windows were outside the "clean area" for the maternity ward, and the nurses there didn't seem upset to see me looking in, so I suspect he was dramatizing the situation for me.. it worked.

But being a 6 year old boy, I wasn't overly impressed. Little guy turned out mostly OK though, but he is still the little (if not the younger appearing) brother. :) (He smokes, I never have, he also is much more athletic and has spent much more time outside, generally getting sunburned, 'cause he's also fairer skinned). His son looks so much like me, that at our Dad's funeral he kept explaining that my nephew was *his* son, and *he* is the younger brother.

Twins Update

Elizabeth had her first appointment with her regular pediatrician. She's gained a little weight, although not much. She's also still anemic enough that the Dr. put her on iron drops. Otherwise she's doing fine. (Her mother is anemic too, off and on)

Meanwhile Kathryn has gained back almost half of what she initially lost. She's up to 3-3, from 3-0, but still down from her birth weight of 3-6. Otherwise she's keeping on keeping on.

Poor 'Beth has to suffer a car ride most times that Kathryn gets her Mommy visit. Daylight hours anyway. My other daughter and her husband are trying to cover as many nighttime feedings as they can, as chauffeur or babysitter.

Glad to hear little Kathryn is gaining her weight back. Guess she’s getting used to the higher calorie formula.
Have they said at what weight they will likely release her?

I hadn’t thought about Beth going with them to the hospital. I know they are glad to have the help from the rest of you guys. It wouldn’t take long to get worn out from everything they’ve got going on right now, just with the babies!

No. But we were really surprised when they released Elizabeth at not that much over 4 lbs, we had thought 5 lbs was the "threshold". I think all three of our jaws dropped Saturday night when the nurse told us that she would likely be released on Sunday, pending the outcome of her test for jaundice, which came back positive, but "not that much", based on some sort of days since birth adjusted curve.

She may be up to the 4lb. mark by then, if she is eating good. That would be great to not have to load up and go to the hospital for feedings! Praying that everything goes well, and that she is able to come home by then.

Today's, actually a compendium of last night's, via La Gata, and today's direct from The Mommy.

Little Kathryn is not so little. She's regained her birth weight. They wanted to take her out of the warmer, but then she had low body temperature incident and so they'll wait a little longer. Obviously still eating well.

Meanwhile Elizabeth is not gaining as much as they'd like, so they are adding some high cal supplement for her as well. She also is having some temperature regulation problems, so they have to keep her well bundled and the house a little warm. Tonight is the coldest night of the season in Austin... but fortunately La Gata, the great nieces/cousins and of course Miss V should be there about now, so E won't have to go out when K needs to be fed. Even if LG is not there, Aunt B is and can help out since it's a weekend night.

Her OB said The Mommy should be able to drive by late next week, further simplifying things. But then again, Miss K might be home about the same time, although we think it will be a little latter.

Of course Grandpa will be there by tomorrow afternoon, further taking a load off of everyone involved.

Sounds like the baby brigade is shaping up pretty good!

Praying for everybody to stay well, and the baby body thermostats to stabilize.

Bet Miss V is glad to be home and see Mommy and Daddy. Has she checked out the new addition? : )

She has indeed. I I don't think she understood that the "babies" that Mommie and Grandma had been telling her about were *real* babies. She seemed to expect a doll, and was quite surpised when Elizabeth *moved*. She ate her dinner, and then ate again, with gusto, when the rest of us ate.

I'm posting from her house now. Grandma is here too, but not the cousins, who stayed in Sherman.

Elizabeth is on the high calorie diet now, as she wasn't gaining to the pediatrician's satisfaction. But Miss Piggy, aka Kathryn is now 3 ozs above her birth weight, as of this morning.

I just got back from taking The Mommy to the hospital for the 20:30 feeding. She again ate well, both the Good Stuff and the bottle afterwards. Daddy and Grandma stayed with Miss V and Miss E. Grandma is actually at the store, Daddy is laying down for the night, and Mommy is taking a shower, afer which she'll hit the hay too. Grandma will stay here, and Grandpa will go stay with Auntie B (our younger daughter) for the night.

I also *tried* to feed Miss E before the "after burp" portion of her bottle, Grandma did the before burp part, but Miss E wanted to sleep more than she wanted to eat. Apparently she ate some while we were at the hospital.

Late update on Miss Kathryn. She's up to 3 lb. 12 oz, 6 oz above her birth weight and about 11 oz above her low point.

Miss Elizabeth is settling in at home, but seems kind of fussy. However Grandpa, and Daddy too, are having trouble recognizing the "I'm wet" cry, and that seems to have contributed somewhat. She also is beginning to open her eyes for longer periods, and seems to be looking around. I *know* she was looking at me, trying to tell me to change her diaper, but the message wasn't getting through.

Miss Kathryn is doing the same, although less so, preferring to spend her energy eating and growing.

Miss Victoria woke up in a snit, with a very stinky diaper as well. But by the time Aunt B got here to take her to pre-school, she was on a more even keel. Grandpa picked her up, after an emergency trip to the driver's license place. In all the excitement and anxiety of the past few weeks, I plum forgot to renew it. Miss V was sort of sleepy, not having taken a nap. She slept very briefly during the ride home, and I started to take her on the Grand Tour, so she'd get a little more shut eye, but she woke up. She went down pretty early I guess, while Mommy and Grandpa were at the hospital feeding her baby sister Kathryn. Aunt B came over again, to watch younger sister E, because Daddy had a run in with some bad Greek food. (Not pretty!).

Everyone else is asleep, and as soon as I hit "post", I will try to do the same, got to be up for the 5:30 feeding at the hospital. Then take Miss B to school, followed by the 11:30 feeding. Then I have to drive an hour back for a half day at work.

'Nite all.

Wow! Sounds like you’re almost a road runner!!! LOL

So glad to hear that little K is gaining... and that Elizabeth is doing fine at home. Yep... those different baby cries tell you something. You’ll soon learn the “code”!

And Miss V has had quite an adjustment. She now shares her world with 2 other little princess. Maybe she needs Grandpa to bring her a couple of carnations to make her feel extra special......

From our family to yours..... we wish all of you the blessings of a happy Thanksgiving. We continue to pray for all in your beautiful family, and hope that little Kathryn will be able to come home soon.

Hugs.....

“TT”, Beth & Nana

LOL. Elizabeth will have you guys trained before you know it!!

Sounds like Miss V isn't the only one needing a nap after all of that running around! : )

Hope y'all have a good Thanksgiving. God bless.

How does TODAY sound? Tomorrow at the latest, but most likely today. They just have to run a hearing test and give her a Hepatitis B shot, and she's good to go and ready to launch. If they delay to 5:30, Grandma Gata might even get to participate in the festivities.

Forgot to add, she’s now 4 lb 2 oz. Over a pound above her post birth low, and 12 oz above her birth weight.

Oops, gotta go. Miss Victoria just got up, now we’re in for it. :)

Seriously she’s not a morning person but seems pretty chipper this morning.. for her.
