Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger voted for a 1994 ballot measure to deny social services to illegal immigrants, his campaign said Sunday -- offering the first glimpse of the actor's stand on a major policy issue.

The Republican has promoted himself as the candidate in California's gubernatorial recall who can best appeal to the state's politically and ethnically diverse electorate.

Yeah, pity about the lack of votes from illegals. Of course, somehow a bunch of them WILL vote, probably be paid to vote and driven to a polling place, a la the November 2000 Bush/Gore mess.

But believe it or not, LOTS of immigrants who came here legally resent the heck out of those who broke the law and got here illegally. You really can't generalize about them at all. And by the way, there are many Legal immigrant Hispanics who are registered Republicans. I made enough calls on election day November 2000 to know THAT for a fact.

Appointing Pete Wilson to his "cabinet" sent a HUGE message to anyone who was in this state when Wilson was governor.

So HUGE, in fact, that by his very presence Wilson will cost Arnold a lot of votes from those disenfranchised/disgusted Dems and Independents who hated, absolutely HATED, Pete Wilson.

For the record, I thought Pete Wilson was a GREAT governor!

Still some time before the election. Arnold is really the only candidate that is getting the media attention. A debate between the main candidates could change the polls.

Good point:inflexabiity equals failure.Ronald Reagan said that if he disagreed 2o percent of the time with a candidate, that means that there is 80 percent agreement.And that's sufficient in most or all cases.There's never been a successful candidate for Office that pleases everyone.

Think about it -- only one group threatens to sit home and not vote and actually did in 2000 which almost cost Bush the election -- the ultra right which includes the Keyes faction of the Republican Party! Seems to me they are the Republican in Name Only part of Republicans since they didn't vote for President Bush or stayed home. As Keyes said in 2000, he was going to sit back and say He Told Us So when President Bush lost in November. I don't call that a "real" Republican!

By the way, just to clarify what your lying slander is--it is that the Keyes people didn't support the President over Al Gore--that they sat home and didn't vote.

I met personally with Karl Rove at the 2000 convention, and began a relationship geared towards holding the right wing of the party solid--an effort that almost completely succeeded. In case you didn't notice, Pat Buchanan was not even able to garner 1% of the vote, thank God.

At that point in time, virtually ALL of the key Keyes leaders in ALL of the states had made it clear that they were supporting the GOP nominee. I can't think of ONE leader who didn't, and said they were staying home...not ONE!

Over one million Republicans voted for Alan Keyes in 2000. As his political director, I knew virtually all of his leaders. They worked their hearts out. They voted. They fought the PR war during the post election battle.

They, as a group, are some of the finest individuals I have ever known in my life.

I'm so mad because it is them you are smearing, unfairly, with falsehoods.

Another lady on FR has repeatedly cautioned me about jumping to conclusions-but anyone about to be given access to such authority, over such a major segment of the American landscape, has to be held to very high standards.

I am sure the article was INTENDED to ring bells & perhaps slander the fellow. However, he should have thought before expressing such dumb remarks. His speech indicates some very bad thinking-clearly he will have trouble with this in future.
