Fordyce (AP) - Two Fordyce nursing home employees are accused of beating an elderly woman with brass knuckles for -- quote -- ``being disrespectful.''
The nursing assistants, 17-year-old Shermika Rainey and 44-year-old Gayla Wilson, are each charged with a felony count of adult abuse. They work at Dallas County Nursing Home. Both were ordered held on 100-thousand dollars bond today.
The pair are accused in the beating of 81-year-old Willie Mae Ryan on July 30th. Ryan is in the critical care unit at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.
If convicted, each suspect faces five to 20 years in prison.
In an affidavit, investigators say Wilson told Rainey she was tired of Ryan being disrespectful and motioned the teenager into the elderly woman's room. The affidavit says Rainey held Ryan while Wilson beat the victim with brass knuckles.

It used to be that Gramma went to live with the adult children - and was a source of wisdom for the wee ones.

Shermika--sounds like a name for a hurricane--please submit it to the esteemed congresswoman.

Could be another Bitch of Buchenwald. I suspect, however, Shermika is not German.

Get a rope! Yes, instanter. There is no excuse to justify beating an 81-year-old woman. I don't care if she is the lowest, meanest bitch who ever drew breath. The perps are cowards.

" ... name for a hurricane."
There are so many possibilities for names and spellings that we'll never run out of original names. Remember the "Bizarro" characters in the old Superman comics? These AA names are starting to approach that level of silliness -- "Bzx!lwk!kh" being just one example.

I can never get over the penalties set by the justice system. People face 5 years for spanking a child, and 5 years for beating an elderly 81 year old ill woman in a nursing home with brass knuckles.
What is wrong with this picture?

Get a rope! Get TWO sets of ropes: DRAGGIN' ropes (first) and HANGIN' ropes (if dragging doesn't achieve the desired results).
But, first, please let me borrow the 'knucks' to show those two animals how they're SUPPOSED to be used.

I want to know if race is envolved and if we have a hate crime here. It's only a hate crime if a black or homosexual is the victim. How could anyone named Formica be guilty of a hate crime?

Shermika is generally an afro-american name. There is no telling the race of the victim but it is not unusual in the least for the media to ignore stuff that involves black hate crimes.

Probably not. Sounds like meanness to me. I noticed reading that the nursing home is 'Dallas County' and probably state sponsored. I strongly suspect that the 17 year old in particular was in a welfare to work program. This is happening frequently now. Nursing assistancy and elderly home aides are one of those jobs that are 'beneath the average American' as who wants to get paid 7/hr to clean an old person? My mother is a home health aide. She's from the Caribbean, and my grandmother too. Right now she's at work taking care of a 100 year old Irishman. She sings gaelic songs with him and feeds him. Most people, especially the sort coming out of welfare to work programs, just can't relate.
