With one day left for candidates to qualify for the Oct. 7 recall election, former Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth said Friday he would run, while actor Arnold Schwarzenegger picked up the help of former Gov. Pete Wilson and a nod from President Bush.

Ronald Reagan's speechwriter was on Hannity's radio program endorsing Arnold. yesterday ...
I also heard Newt Gingrich saying some nice things about Ah-nuld on Sean's program yesterday.

I'm surprised that Simon and Ueberroth added their names to the list, especially after Issa did not. Simon joined too late, and no one remembers Ueberroth. McClintock is also not a well known figure.

Arnold will win the election and become the next govinator, thus the Republicans will hold one statewide office, and the most important one at that. The governor has line item veto power on the budget, and as Arnold says, "As you know, I have plenty of money. I don't need any special interest money."

Arnold will win, because he will draw voters from every party.

If you don't believe Arnie is conservative enough for you, I say, give him a chance to show you otherwise. We tried Simon, but he didn't get elected, and if you don't get elected, you can't do anything.

The important thing is to ensure Davis is out and another Demorat doesn't replace him!

"If he half-tries to come our way and keeps his word, many pro-family voters will go for him," says Gerry Snyder, chair of the California Family Council. "But they need signals."

It's called "Stockholm Syndrome".

Thanks for the info though, as it was a bit enlightening.

I like both of the candidates. However I wish there was a hybred between Tom and Arnold. Maybe someone who is pro-life, pro-2nd amendment, yet not a disciple of Randy Thomasson and Lou Sheldon. Someone who could have sound fiscal management while not being dogged by questions on social issues. Voters in Los Angeles, San Mateo and Santa Barbara counties want someone in this vein. They are the swing voters that neuter San Fransisco and Marin counties.

We dont need more programs, we need to go over and review the programs for duplication. If Arnold wants initiatives he should try to find private industry and charitable organizations to fund 51% or more of the ideas. Goverment is not the answer to our problems.

His support of abortion rights and gay adoption will give social conservatives heartburn.
But many so badly want a winner that they could give the Terminator a pass if he shows respect for their views.

"If he half-tries to come our way and keeps his word, many pro-family voters will go for him," says Gerry Snyder, chair of the California Family Council. "But they need signals."

They're starting. The actor has told his friend Rep. Dana Rohrabacher that he opposes partial-birth abortion and backs the Boy Scouts' right to set private standards for membership. While he supports the state's ban on assault weapons, he has opposed strict gun controls. His advisers hint he wants to restore a limit on state spending that was removed in 1990... - John Fund

REASONS TO SUPPORT ARNOLD:

Rush is reported to be slamming the AS candidacy. I haven't heard him do so, but many conservatives are most definitely doing so, so here are the reasons why center-right Republicans and conservative Republicans should vote for AS:

1. AS can win. The others in the race who would make acceptable governors --Bill Simon, Tom McClintock, and Peter Ueberroth-- cannot marshall enough votes to top the almost certain 25 to 30% that Cruz Bustamante will roll up. Objectivity matters a great deal here, and even if AS hadn't gotten into the race, the presence of more than one "movement" candidate dooms them all. Period. End of story. Arguing this point doesn't change the facts on the ground.

2. AS is best positioned to withstand the Graystopo, as the slime machine Gray has perfected has come to be called. Even if there was only one movement conservative in the race, he would be a target that would be mercilessly mowed down. Complaining about it doesn't stop it from happening.

3. AS does great things for the candidacy of Tony Strickland against Boxer in '04 and of course puts California in play for President Bush. So he's closer to Pataki than to Reagan, so what. A candidate who wins and governs to my satisfaction 65 to 75% of the time is better than a candidate who talks like I talk and loses.

4. Imagine you are Jim DeMint and you need to raise some money. Wouldn't you love to be able to call the Bush people and ask them to get AS on a jet to Charleston for a little $1,000 a head gathering? This is what Bill Clinton does 24/7/365. AS is a hyperdraw, matched only by the President and the Veep. Three such draws is better than two.

5. Finally, the state is in desperate shape. AS is right, businesses and talent are fleeing. Unless the bleeding stops, this economy continues to drag the national economy down, and with them both, the re-elect numbers of the President.

The purists have to get over it and get behind a winning effort. - Hugh Hewitt

Um, but isn't this drag on the national economy (the loss of the contributions to CA of the fleeing businesses and talent) perhaps more than offset by the contributions of said businesses and talent to other states -- where they aren't bled so heavily to support government waste?

Considering that RINO Arnauld was described two days ago as a social democrat by Jamie Lee Curtis on the "Today" show and Jamie Lee Curtis appears on the boycott H'weirdo list, that makes him acceptable to H'weirdos. Bill Simon looks better and better.

In all of those arguments made by Hewitt, I see not one based on ideology.

It's all "we win" by having this or that person. Never mind the fact that said people stand for exactly what is behind California dire situation.

As I said I hope Ahhnuld (with a Kennedy in his ear) gets elected, Californians deserve a pro-death, gungrabbing, enviro liberal and his "programs". Californian's sins will deservedly catch up with them and make a good example for the rest of us as to what happens when people capitulate to devolution.

Let's take guns in particular. Is there any hope pro-gun forces could get a private commitment from AS to lay off on that issue? Just curious.

But in Kali would an endorsement from pro-gun forces help or hurt? And would the populace knowing the gun rightists are rallying for Arnold help or hurt?

It's tricky out there...like a giant Jersey or Massachusetts.

I am afraid that I agree with Hewitt in at least the fact that a conservative (like most of us) can't win a statewide election there.

My attitude towards Arnold is that he is way too liberal for my tastes, but I will support him because he is the first step towards returning California to a state of sanity. The democrats got us into this mess through incremental socialism and we need to backpedal in incremental steps.

The first step is to get a Republican (yes even a RINO) into the governor's chair and hopefully if he does a good job that will result in the republicans eventually (maybe even at the next election) taking over one or both houses of the legislature.

Simon is not going to outpoll Bustamante or Garamendi. Neither is McClintock (who has no money to get his message out). So if we throw our support behind one of the loosers then Arnold may not get enough votes and we will be trading Davis for Bustamante which in my mind is worse than keeping Davis.

As bad as he is (Yeah, he's bad), I will almost certainly vote for Arnold. He can win. He will win. He is a "step" in the right direction. If you want to try to leap in the right direction by supporting Simon, then we will have wasted this opportunity and we will end up falling in the wrong direction.

All Rush said was that Arnold was no Ronald Reagan. This is true, but could a Ronald Reagan win Cali in its present form?

I don't live in Cali; I'd have to think hard about voting someone who advocates government paying for after-school, pre-school, etc. etc. It scares me that the raising of our children should be the governent's job; considering the "values" the government instills.

I saw Tom Arnold talking to Alan Colmes all excited about Arnold because he puts forth great "Dem" values.

On the other hand, I saw that dimwit Loretta Sanchez on Scarborough touting her racial nonsense.

Bill Simon competes well with Davis on who has the most personal charm :) He should stay out; he has NO chance.

There is a deep rooted psychological reason why Arnold is pushing for these "help the children" programs. All one has to do is look at his deprived upbringing. He should be concentrating on the roots of poverty and abused children, to start how about single parenthood.

In all of those arguments made by Hewitt, I see not one based on ideology.
O.K., here is all that you need to know:
1 - Davis is toast.
2 - The RATs plan to do whatever it takes to elect the INFINITELY WORSE Cruz Bustamante.
3 - The ONLY OTHER choice (who can WIN) in this election is Arnold.
We do not have the luxury of WISHING that this were not the reality.
The choice **is** Arnold vs. Cruz.
A vote for Simon, or McClintock or Ueberroth is a vote for THIS guy:

Meet CA Lt. Gov. Cruz "I didn't mean to say 'n****r' to the black audience" Bustamante

That's right, California's own Democrat Lieutenant Governor has a little problem with the N-word.
Many sources (warning: offensive)

Now he's in the recall race...

Yes, indeed. Cruz 'El Cerdo Loco' Bustamante is about as rotten as they get.

Cruz Bustamante
Mechista and
Reconquista

The Making of Bustamante
After Washington, Bustamante attended Fresno State University, where he served in the student senate and began dabbling in community politics, learning about partisan politics first-hand. "I wasn't the most radical Mechista [M.E.Ch.A, which stands for Movimiento Estudiantil de Aztlan, is a Chicano student organization known for its ethnocentric views]. At the same time, there were a lot Vietnam veteranos attending school. They were like big brothers, and they taught me a lot."

....Martha and the Latino caucus responded with a press conference to offer a moderate plan to stem immigration. But it ended in chaos when Cruz Bustamante, a farm-country Fresno Democrat, said, "We could not conduct business without the immigrant."
Dumbfounded reporters asked if he supported illegal immigration. "My district requires it," he answered.
Bustamante restricted future press conferences to the Spanish language media.

See: MotherJones ND93: Can we all get along?
(Cruz Bustamante is the Lt. Governor of California. On August 7, 2003, the Mechista liar announced he would be running for governor in the Gray Davis recall election on October 7... something he previously vowed not to do.)

OK, I'll agree that Ahhnold is the lesser of two evils if you'll agree that you're operating from a position of weakness by aiding and abetting a liberal in order to keep a leftist out.

You're best bet it to move. If you're a conservative in California you've lost the game a long time ago, just haven't realized it yet.
