Let me add that I also have heard Dr. Laura speak well of men who attempt to be "Christ-like" in their lives. If you listen to her, you know she is not especailly quick with praise or compliments.
She genuinely admires true Christian men.

her son's teenage problems I dod not hear of those. Has he been arrested or something? She might have talked about him on the air. All teens have problems: real or self-manufactured I suppose. Has her son been in the news?

Perhaps I should have said HER problems with her teenage son.
To: Conservababe
She cannot even handle her own problems ie her mother's death, her son's teenage problems nor her own religious convictions. As I see it, that's all the more reason to keep her in prayer. She's going through a transition and could certainly use our support.

I was putting out a tremendous amount toward that mission, that end, and not feeling return I'm a lukewarm guy, liable to be spat out myself...but I find the "not feeling return" thing odd. Seems to me your faith should be, well, a matter of faith- not a matter of investment/return.
Limited understanding/conviction I have is: There is a God that created me, and expects me to do right. I will be called to account one day, and will have to depend solely upon his mercy- and that mercy is not dispensed according to good deeds/bad deeds, but my faith in that mercy.
Not a theologian, and not interested in argument- I'll find out whether I'm right or wrong in the end.
For now, I'll take it on faith.

Perhaps I should have said HER problems with her teenage son. What are you talking about? And how do her 'problems' with her son detract from the value or validity of what she says on the air? Are you saying that only problem-free people may counsel or advise?

I like her as well and really appreciate her work. I really like the no-nonsense approach she uses.

>>Dr Laura is a fruitcake. Her five second answer to caller's question is dangerous. <<
Amen. She is unlistenable. While her intent is good, gads, her dripping "moral authority" is sickening.

Prayers for guidance and wisdom for Dr. Laura are on their way.

She is a bit abrasive but New Yorkers are like that in general. Morally, she is dead on. I will be praying for her also.

Savage has his problems, but at least he
is real.
I don't like Hannity and Coulter because
both come across as big phonies to me.
And big egos too!

If more folks had Dr. Laura's perspective, I would have drastically fewer patients where I work, on the locked ICU psych ward.
She's done her homework and understands the root causes of her callers' problems. She's heard it all before. Believe me, after a while, one can predict what a person is going to say in defense of sick behavior, down to the smaller details.

I have listened to Schlessinger since the early 90s, and not once have I ever heard her say anything that could remotely be construed as dangerous. However, I've heard many, many "fruitcakes" on the other end of the phone lines. Apparently they have access to these boards as well.
Dr. Laura speaks with moral authority because she is grounded in the defining truth that there exists Right and Wrong, Good and Evil; and that not only is that knowledge attainable, it is absolutely imperative.
Hmmmph, now there's a social oddity...
Perhaps you don't like someone being quite that convinced, and a flip-flopping weenie-shrink is more to your liking. Pardon me, but your moral relativism is showing.

Thanks.
You've labelled me as an immoral idiot incapable of knowing right and wrong because I don't like a radio talk person who stands on a false pedastool of moral superioity.
I'm sorry, I don't find my center at the same place "DR" Laura. I find that God directs my moral clarity. Not some pretentious witch.

For her to put it all out on the table like that, is commendable. I catch her show occasionally, and don't find much wrong with her "tough love". The main thing I heard her say once that I disagreed with, she smirked at the idea of the "age of accountability" concerning baptism, that many Christians profess. I disagreed with her, because I don't think you are "saved" because someone poured water on your head when you are a few months old, when you're not even aware of what's going on. I personally believe in an age of accountability, and don't think it arrives at age x for every individual. I know some will disagree with this, and for those who do, I'm not going to descend into a flame war with you. So, nyah. :)

I have a friend that temped for a few weeks after she moved to LA....
First temp job she had was as an audience member for the disaster that was the Dr. Laura TV show...
Yes, they couldn't get an audience, so the ENTIRE audience for that show was comprised of paid temp workers....

Yes, they couldn't get an audience, so the ENTIRE audience for that show was comprised of paid temp workers....Conservative talk radio flourishes, conservative TV fails. Radio listeners have to listen and think. TV watchers have to be entertained. Not too many examples outside this formula. Hannity and Colmes, O'Reilly sometimes, George Will on Sunday. Hey, it's demographics. I should know, I'm a talk radio junkie who watches TV now and then.

I'm a radio listener, too, because I am on the road so much. I really like XM radio now..However, when I used to listen to regular radio, I would often catch Dr. Laura and while she was very plain spoken and to the point, I cannot remember disagreeing with her on very much. She stuck quite close to the teachings of the Ten Commandments in her advice to the callers. She was always very kind to children who called. Regarding a teenage son..Our hearts should go out to anyone trying to rear a teenager today. Almost 100% go through some kind of rebellion against parental authority as they find their adult identity. Look at the Bush girls! If the parent has successfully lived the moral values taught to the child, the child will usually come back to those values after the rebellion is over.

Didn't the gays organize a rabid protest against Dr. Laura's TV show?

It is really nice that you know God enough to let him direct your moral clarity. It would be nicer still if you let Him direct your social attitude. IMHO
