A German is to become the first ever European to take part in the world's most brutal tournament - the Sanda fight in China.
Andre Mewis, 31, from Berlin, has been training for the fight for two years.
The sport, known as Sanda, is a mix of judo, karate, boxing and kung-fu and there are no rules.
Everything is allowed, kicking, biting and punches and the fights often end in serious injury or in some cases death.
He said he had been taking his participation very seriously, training up to 11 hours a day with two Shaolin monks, foregoing sex and not drinking. And he is confident of success. He says: "I will leave China the winner."
The karate champion added it is not just about muscles and strength. He said: "They are minor points. A fighter's mind is his best weapon.
"It is like a game of chess. Just one correct move is enough to ensure your opponent is taken out."
The fight will take place in the Chinese town of Zhengzhou in October.

Sounds like the democratic Presidential Primary.

It's not possible to forget Bloodsport, since WGN, TBS, and TNN seem to have a deal that at least one of them will run it weekly.

He might actually win, just because he's aware of this:
A fighter's mind is his best weapon.

The guy who played Chong Li, the bad guy, also starred in Enter the Dragon. Then his name was Chang Tze(?) now he goes by Bolo Yeung. In blood sport he had to be like fifty.
Pretty damned impressive. Kinda like me, only totally different ;~)
I met a guy from Macedonia who fought in the Sanda. He wasn't too pretty.
Don't know how he looked before.

Yeah, but I don't mind, it's an OK movie to watch every so often. At least van Damme didn't take himself too seriously, unlike Steven Seagal.
Besides, I always thought that blonde reporter in "Bloodsport" was really, really cute.

Here is your chance to avenge the murder of your master, the destruction of your school, the humiliation of your sisters, the honor of your family, the theft of your ancestral lands, and the making of all of those pathetic Dam Jean Claude Van movies .

foregoing sex and not drinking. Well, that does it for me.
You win.

Reminds me of a mid-90s kickboxing movie starring Sasha Mitchell. The two guys dip their boxing gloves into tar or some other substance, and then into a bucket of glass shards. Then they go at it...

The sport, known as Sanda, is a mix of judo, karate, boxing and kung-fu and there are no rules. Including no rules on caliber? What about auto v. semi-auto? I understand of course no bayonets.

So are you saying this entire report of being the first European is false?

My brother was given a Chow, which he named Sasha. Stupidest dog in the world. She barks at him every day when he comes home from work, until he reintroduces himself to her.
Sasha Mitchell? Watch 'Death Before Dishonor'...
