HARVEY MILK SCHOOL: FREEP OR LAWSUIT???
Posted on 08/07/2003 8:38:16 PM PDT by sdk7x7
I heard recently that a Hispanic bishop was planning to sue NYC for the illegally segregated Harvey Milk school for gays-only.
Just wondering if there's any news on this or any other lawsuit... or if any Freeper has connections to file a suit.
Are we going to rally against this place? I'm up for it.

If they
want separate but equal facilities, why not let them have them? Let them have their own city if they want it, or their own planet.

Anybody trying to sue on that basis is wasting their time. The school's policy is to admit kids who meet its criteria (i.e. troubled, already dropped out or rarely attending school, etc.) regardless of sexual orientation. It's run with gay kids in mind, but until an otherwise qualified applicant who asserts that s/he is not gay applies and is turned down, there is no basis whatsoever for a lawsuit.

So who determines these kids are gay?, remember they are minors.

This is another opportunity for the gay lobby to recruit.
Next we'll have elementary schools for children that may want to be gay.

An FYI...
From the Harvey Milk School webpage;
"The school offers LGBTQ youth an opportunity to obtain a secondary education in a safe and supportive environment. It is the goal of The Hetrick-Martin Institute and the New York City Board of Education that youth enrolled in the Harvey Milk School are challenged to achieve their full potential. The Harvey Milk School strives to develop life-long independent learners by creating a participative educational environment focused on academic excellence, with a special emphasis on arts and technology. Integrating an accredited curriculum with life experience, we seek to incorporate appropriate after school services and the evaluation of their impact. We believe that success requires the ability to respect and value the diverse human community."

Self-reported, I would assume. Since they don't have to be gay to attend the school, nobody at the school is setting up any criteria for deciding if they're gay or not. But this loopy "Hispanic bishop" who obviously has way too much time on his hands, is going to have to come up with a way of proving to the court that each and every kid in the school is gay, and that one or more otherwise eligible applicants who were turned away are not gay, if his suit is to proceed beyond the laughed-out-of-court stage.

It is YOUR tax-money! It is immoral for government to take your money and force you to support what you consider to be moreally repugnant! Failing to object is also immoral!

A Latino-American group is suing the city for discrimination. Maybe they feel Latino Americans need their own school for protection. Maybe they get picked on, too.
We KNOW GOD is discriminated against. Christians are silenced! They need protection from liberal teachers, too.
I'm suprised there's not more groups demanding their own private school. Why not? Why should sodomites get school choice, and no one else?

NYC needs a private school for fat kids; they get dissed all the ime.

Self-reported, I would assume. Since they don't have to be gay to attend the school, nobody at the school is setting up any criteria for deciding if they're gay or not. What if this group feels a more sin free environment is safer for their Christian students? What protections do Christians get in public schools from liberal kids and teachers? Aren't Christians in a public school a minority? How do gays treat Christians?
Why should Christian kids be subject to gay sex ed? Abortion? Mother earth worship? What if they say no? They fail the course! Either they change to fit the rest, or they're going to fail the indoctrination. Gays fit right into the public schools. They're set up with elite status there!
Christians need to be protected in public schools more than any other group. The place is a Satanic church.

I have a question: I live in Maryland, and I think this school is a dumb idea, but I also don't see what business it is of mine how people in New York want to educate their own children. While I'd oppose it here in Maryland, should I really make a big fuss opposing it up there in New York City?

No, but if you would support those of us who are in New York City and think this is an outrage, it would be appreciated.

Ya! The rest of the schools are now gay-free!

As a mom I would urge you strongly not to freep a High School, or any other school.
I remember when some Lesbians wanted to picket an (or maybe several) elementary school(s), to protest opposition to the "rainbow ciricculum" (bet those lesbians can spell tho', unlike myself). I told my friend that I'd be damned if I'd let ANYONE harrass my child on her way to school. I feel strongly the same way about your suggestion.
And I'm not even striving to be even-handed here. LEAVE OTHER PEOPLE'S CHILDREN ALONE! If you wish to protest this school deal with the adults involved.

Who determines that they're gay? I was 13 in 9th grade. I could have cared less about SEX. I was however, solicited by a gay girl at my local Y at age 12. Therre motto must be: get'em young and screw'em up early type of soliciting.
Do these kids really know what they want for the rest of their lives? Ridiculous.

By that theory, the government has no right to use tax revenues to fund the military, because there are a lot of people paying taxes who believe war is immoral under any circumstances.
