Charlie Daniels is a Simple Man.

Charlie Daniels:
"You know I got some flack for writing this song. Some people called me some names.
I don't care"
Simple Man
I ain't nothin' but a simple man They call me a redneck I reckon that I am But there's things going on That make me mad down to the core.
I have to work like a dog to make ends meet There's crooked politicians and crime in the street And I'm madder'n hell and I ain't gonna take it no more.
We tell our kids to just say no Then some panty waist judge lets a drug dealer go Slaps him on the wrist and then he turns him back out on the town.
Now if I had my way with people sellin' dope I'd take a big tall tree and a short piece of rope I'd hang 'em up high and let 'em swing 'til the sun goes down
Well, you know what's wrong with the world today People done gone and put their Bible's away They're living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land The good book says it so I know it's the truth An eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth You better watch where you go and remember where you been That's the way I see it I'm a Simple Man.
Now I'm the kinda man that'd not harm a mouse But if I catch somebody breakin in my house I've got twelve guage shotgun waiting on the other side
So don't go pushing me against my will I don't want to have to fight you but I dern sure will So if you don't want trouble then you'd better just pass me on by
As far as I'm concerned there ain't no excuse For the raping and the killing and the child abuse And I've got a way to put an end to all that mess
Just take them rascals out in the swamp Put 'em on their knees and tie 'em to a stump Let the rattlers and the bugs and the alligators do the rest
You know what's wrong with the world today People done gone and put their Bible's away They're living by the law of the jungle not the law of the land The Good Book says it so I know it's the truth An eye for and eye and a tooth for a tooth You better watch where you go and remember where you been That's the way I see it I'm a Simple Man.
THIS AIN'T NO RAG. ITS A FLAG..
This ain't no rag it's a flag and we don't wear it on our heads It's a symbol of the land where the good guys live are you listening to what I said You're a coward and a fool and you broke all the rules and you wounded our American pride Now we're coming with a gun and we know you're gonna run but you can't find no place to hide
We're gonna hunt you down like a mad dog hound and make you pay for the lives you stole We're all through talking and messing around and now it's time to rock and roll
These colors don't run and we're speaking as one when we say united we stand If you mess with one you mess with us all every boy, girl, woman and man
You've been acting mighty rash and talking that trash but let me give you some advice You can crawl back in your hole like a dirty little mole but now it's time to pay the price
You might have shot us in the back but now you have to face the fact that the big boy's in the game The lightning's been flashing and the thunder's been crashing and now it's gettin ready to rain
Chorus: This is the United States of America the land of the brave and free We believe in God, we believe in justice, we believe in liberty
You've been pulling our chain, we shoulda done something about you a long time ago But now the flag's flying high and the fur's gonna fly and now the whole world's gonna know
This ain't no rag it's a flag old glory red white and blue The stars and stripes and when it comes to a fight we can do what we have to do
Our people stand proud the American crowd is faithful and loyal and tough We're as good as the best and better than the rest you're gonna find out soon enough
When you look up in the sky and you see the eagle fly you'd better know he's headed your way This ain't no rag it's a flag and it stands for the USA

My neat story about Charlie Daniels....
After his pro-America piece about visiting the prison in Gitmo, I emailed a thank you for his public statement supporting our president. I told him I'd never listened to much of his music, but now I'd probably go out and buy his CD - just because he's such a great patriot.
I get this note back.... "Give me your snail mail addy and I'll send you a free CD!"
I did. About 2 weeks later, I get not one but TWO free CD's! Needless to say, I'm now a fan!!

Works for me!!! Go Charlie. There's a million and more behind you. Your song is common sense.

I was disappointed that he sanitized some of the lyrics in his remake of Long Haired Country Boy.

Mr. Daniel is a True American Patriot. Check out his editorials - they are posted here from time to time. Also, make sure you get to one of his excellent shows! It's a foot stompin', fiddlin and dancin' good time.

Thank goodness. The last time I ran into a ~complex man~ (who actually told me, "I'm very complex,") and who also proclaimed, "I'm very honorable," was anything but honorable and his complexity was a nighmare of twisted morals, ethics from hell, and a hydra of obfuscation and lies..
Thanks heavens there are simple men out there like those whose ambiguities deal with sock colors and dinner menus, not abiding truths and clear thinking.
Other simple men: CS Lewis, St. Augustine, my husband who is primo A numero uno, my sons, my boss who is a great man, humanitarian, physician, professor, and of course, my dad who for all his complexity of thought was crystal clear in his meaning.

Damn right! I saw that on his website and my jaw nearly dropped! Well, here's to the real lyrics...
"People say that I'm no good,
Crazy as a loon,
'Cuz I get stoned in the morning,
Get drunk in the afternoon."
I'm not even going to go into Uneasy Rider...(well, maybe a little)
"I was takin' a trip out to LA,
Toolin' along in my Chevrolet,
Tokin' on a number,
And diggin' on the radio..."
Be true to your songs, Charlie!

Rich and famous but not selfish or corrupt. It can be done. That Book he mentions in his song helps...

I found this looking for another Charlie Daniels article so I'll add my two cents: I like Charlie but he would be much more convincing to me if he had come to grips with his own liberal past and explain why he made the journey to the right. A lot of us, in one way or another, share that story.
