WASHINGTON (CNN) -- With the filing deadline only two days away, former U.S. Olympics President and former Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth has decided to take the first step in a potential bid to replace California Gov. Gray Davis in an October 7 recall election, sources close to the Republican businessman told CNN.

i just want to see Arnold fight Gary Coleman before this race is over...I won't even talk about Arianna and Larry Flynt. And Arianna's former "man". Geez what a weird state.

Doesn't that bring the number of candidates up to 300?

Ueberroth is a day late and a dollar short. He should have ran back in 2002.
He'd make a great gov, however...did an excellent job as baseball commissioner.

I like him but he is getting in the race late -- should have run in 2002 and probably would have won!

Of all the candidates so far, Uebeeroth seems to be the one most qualified to put the state's finances in order. I actually heard about his candidacy this morning....from my just-turned-18 year-old son. What a political junkie that boy is!

He should have run for the Senate against either Feinstein or Boxer in the '90s. Feinstein barely won reelection in 1994 against a lightweight (light in the loafers) Michael Huffington. Ueberroth could not have been considered a lightweight, and probably would have won in 1994.
