Arnold’s In, Now How Do We Proceed

Arnold’s In, Now How Do We Proceed

OK fellow Californian Republicans and conservatives – and interested out-of-staters, no what Arnold has announced he is in, what do we do? Do we rally around him as the front runner to make sure Davis is recalled and get a Governor who at least embodies a semblance of conservatism?

What becomes of the very supportable candidacies of McClintock and Issa? Do we still support either of them even with Schwarzenegger (learn to spell it) in the race? If so do we split the vote and end up with Feinstein, or more likely Loretta Sanchez or less likely Meathead Reiner?

These are very real immediate questions we need to get together on. Too many times in California have I seen the Republicans snatch defeat out of the jaws of near victory or even prior victory (Doris Allen – was that her name?).

Put bluntly we can not blow it this time. Loretta Sanchez as Governess would be worse than Davis surviving recall. She’d have the rest of Davis’ term and then two of her own.

Schwarzenegger’s immediate comments were not necessarily comforting. He stated we need to get business back in California to rebuild the revenue base. That’s good. But then he stated his reason for the need to rebuild the revenues – to provide day care and after school programs and make sure children had enough school books – as if any shortage of school books is due to shortfalls rather than bloated bureaucracy and corruption.

Chances were good before Schwarzenegger’s announcement that Loretta Sanchez will file on the last day. This announcement changes that to almost a certainty that she or another high profile democrat will run. Davis solidarity can’t hold.

The dems, though, will not split the field. The ego trip of another East European immigrant will not play a factor in pulling votes from the dems. Maybe a Green party candidate might, but their side will not have the split ballot we may have.

Simon won’t get in now. McClintock and Issa are good candidates. This leaves us split with three candidates to fight one dem. If we split the vote, the dems win.

It seems we have little choice but to support Schwarzenegger.

What say you? My main point is to not blow it again. Is there another way other than supporting Schwarzenegger? Should other alternatives be considered or is Schwarzenegger OK? Will Republicans show solidarity – that is will Issa and McClintock run against Arnold or pull out and back him? Should they run against him or back him?

Now is the time to address these questions and settle them.

AMEN BROTHER. ISSA AND MCCLINTOCK AND SIMON NEED TO "GET ON BOARD" AS SOON AS A FACE-SAVING CIRCUMSTANCE CAN BE ARRANGED. ITS AH-NOLD OR THE DEVIL. A VOTE FOR ANY REPUB OTHER THAN AH-NOLD IS A VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATES OF THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS.

The main thing to do is to get a Republican in the Governor's mansion in Sacto, regardless of where they stand on Roe vs. Wade.

The choice is between red Davis and disaster, or Arnold and victory. Everything else can be dealt with when Davis hits the highway.

The Democrats may save our Conservative Bacon, Because Lt Gov Bustamente will anounce tommorow he's running:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/959549/posts

If more Democrats jump in, they will split the moderates and Democrat vote and RINO vote between the Dems and Arnold.

This splitting of the Liberal vote will make the Conservative vote more powerful.

Also if Davis smears Arnold (And he will) this could open the door for McClintock to win - but this is a REAL Longshot.

However given the unprecedented nature of this recall it is possible...

Ah-Nold's first words today were, we need to get big business coming back to the state and revenues up. Then we can spend money on a lot of programs that we should. Ug...

I agree. Rome wasn't built in a day.

And the great state of California won't be REbuilt in one election.

Will supporters of McClintock or those concerned over RINOism see it this way?

If so, how to get them on board.

If they do hold out, do McClintock and or Issa separately or together hold enough votes to let a dem beat Schwarzenegger?

I don't see Davis getting much vote. Bustamonte gives them someone to focus on. He'll get the major votes and our side will splinter. We need to be careful about this.

I grudgingly agree with you. BTW, this is good news for Davis. Up until today, he was faced with sliming dozens of candidates. Now he only has to direct his slime at one major opposition candidate. He also will probably have one of his own by Saturday that he'll also have to slime.

Is Feinstein running?

None of the above have yet declared. Feinsten has aid she will not. Sanchez has advocated Feinstein run, even writing an Op-ed in the LA Times calling for it. Sanchez has indicated she would run if Feinstein didn't.

I think the democrat solidarity has crumbled. A high profile dem will run. Feinstein may even do it now that Schwarzenegger is in.

It is hard to say which one it will be now, but if there is not one, the dems lose for sure, so I am sure one of them will run.

I didn;t know this. If so, yes. This piece by me here is no longer in effect if Cruzio runs.

If he runs they have either a loser candidate or a split ballot.
