[history]
The prosecutor in the Kobe Bryant rape case says he has slam-dunk evidence to prove the NBA superstar's guilt, it was revealed on the eve of the hoopster's first court appearance today. Eagle County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert made that strong claim in court papers arguing against making public the police affidavit written to justify Bryant's arrest early last month.

She was mentioned as yet another young, pretty woman who was trashed on F.R.-like the cheerleader. I don't think I'm breaking any rules here- so agree to disagree.

"The media seems to have convicted him without a trial and Freepers are going right along with it! Yep -- we must believe everything the press reports because their sources are always right! "
sorry but the victim has been the subject of conjecture, rumor, belittlement, cursed, and accused of everything ...yes, even right here on FR...
Practically every media person has defended Bryant....
Practically every media person including our very own Hannity, Savage, and many of the other so-called conservatives have trashed this teenager...
Mark Cuban says that this rape is "good for business"..
people on Fr have said the most ridiculous things about the teenager....she used a broomstick to injury her bottom, she's a gold-digger, she's a mental case, she's a slut, she asked for it, etc etc...
in general...the overwhelming opinion on FR and the media has been poor Bryant is being ruined because of this stupid little girl....
so spare the "convicted without trial" business, because the reality, is the VICTIM has already been convicted....

Also, it was brought up by another poster. We were merely discussing how Jessica was trashed on one particular thread like the victim in the Kobe case. As for why we keep watching the Kobe case, darned if I know.

"Why would anyone even bring that up on that panel, I wonder. "
and why would the victim's medical history or her shot at a spot on a tv show being anything more than anectdotal, but people here have run with it....

Because with our legal system the way it is ---where you can be accused of a crime but are presumed innocent until proven guilty, someone can't just accuse you of something and get you locked up for life. There will be a trial and very obviously the credibility of all witnesses ----including the accuser's own credibility will be examined.

Boy, you said alot there....I noticed that too...even though I have no idea what the victim looks like because I am probably the only freeper who has not gone to links with her picture or name...and I won't....
jessica lynch...Anna sorenstam for daring to accept a sponership to play golf, and now this girl.....and the year is just a little over half done....

Well, I see no reason why we can't discuss Kobe's credibility based on media reports (some true/some not). The cheerleader is fair game-fine- then Kobe is fair game also. This is not a court of law; it's F.R. ;this has nothing to do with innocent until proven guilty. All of us-even those who lean toward thinking Kobe is guilty -have a right to our opinion and can post accordingly.

"Anybody who can watch pro basketball after
viewing this fiasco, would have to take anti vomit pills."
Name one professional sport that has been immune from immoral or illegal behavior by a few of the the participants.
The NBA is NOT one or two.....or even 5 players. There are many FINE people in the NBA. I disagree with your premise completely.

***Also, I was surprised at the venom directed towards Jessica Lynch. She certainly didn't spread any stories.***
I am suprised ANY time there is venom directed at a person....WITHOUT FACTUAL BASIS. Seems many have the need to either tear other people down in order to build themselves up.....or, they are just too stupid to be able to mentally process the difference between fact and supposition and like to play this game of cerebral titilation with themselves and others.

***I must say, having an opinion (and I haven't said a word on what I thought of Bryant's appearance or demeanor today) about how he looked in attitude and apparel does NOT translate to determination of guilt. ***
Did I imply it did, cyn? If I have wondered .....I have asked the poster.

There's a new article on Drudge about her vaginal tearing. This trial is going to be rated X. We are going to see exhibits of cartoon genitalia with little arrows pointing to where Kobe's manhood allegedly ripped her up. I doubt there will be cartoon versions shown. The judge will see the actual photos. The jury might see them -- or he might deem that to be too prejudicial, and allow only a description. But the general public will never see those photos, not no way, not no how.

I think Jessica Lynch also deserves to be left off this thread because her case was completely different than this one ---- she was a war hero ----this is probably going to be kind of a disgusting he said--she said kind of case with more details than we really want to hear of ----except we'll for some reason all be paying close attention. It's relevent because it's the same situation. Like I said, some people have a thing about pretty young things, it's been open season on them this year, unfairly so.

I'm not judging her -- I'm just trying to identify facts on both sides that a jury might find prejudicial. Given that a standard tactic in cases like this is to portray the accuser as a fame-seeking nutjob, the American Idol audition (if indeed that did happen - at this point, we really don't know) will play into the defense's hands. Do you disagree? I know that wasn't directed at me, but actually, I do disagree. There must have been thousands of people who tried out for American Idol, at the very least. I don't see any relevance to the case at all, and I will be a little surprised if it is allowed into the trial. If it is, I hope the jury gives it little weight, because I don't see how it applies.

And all the fair, unbiased posters on FR will scream to the high heavens that Kobe is "smearing the victim" by asking those questions. Not me. Those are reasonable questions. It will be interesting to hear the answers.

But Jessica Lynch didn't try to kill herself twice, and nothing in the two cases is at all similar.

But Jessica Lynch didn't try to kill herself twice, and nothing in the two cases is at all similar. The cases aren't similar but the attitude toward them is. Pretty young things aren't given any breaks or any benefit of the doubt here by some, whether they are a POW fighting for their country or whether they're a possible rape victim.
