WASHINGTON (AP) - Travelers may encounter longer lines at airports as screeners focus extra attention on CD players, cameras, laptops and other electronic gadgets that terrorists might try to use to conceal weapons or bombs.
The Homeland Security Department on Tuesday sent an advisory to law enforcement personnel nationwide alerting them to the possibility al-Qaida could use electronics to carry out attacks.
"Al-Qaida operatives have shown a special interest in converting a camera flash attachment into a stun gun type of weapon or improvised explosive device," the advisory said.
David Stempler, president of the Air Travelers Association, said longer lines will be a small price to pay for extra security.

Dammit! Another Freeper was correct. Terrorists and TSA jackals read FreeRepublic
A while back, I provided several possible scenarios in how terrorist could take over an aircraft without using guns. Guns having limited magazine capacity and are dificult to get on board, the only benefit they have is that they are noisy and produce blood - things that scare people. So I recommmended carrying on several electronic devices as stun-guns, virtually unlimited capacity, escapes detection and can be operated in group attacks.
I also recommended getting the bored marshalls off the plane because they are easily lured into interfering in even the lamest of situations. All one passenger had to do is act up, the trigger happy air marshall will quickly identify him/herself and those with stun-guns could quickly dispatch the moron and disarm him - thus having a truly scary and high-capacity firearm.

I only fly once a year and am not looking forward to my trip in September.
God help those of you who fly all the time.
Reading your theories,Dr Warmoose, makes me believe there is no way that we will ever be entirely safe.I've even seen things about fake tubes of lipstick(or lip balm) being used as a weapon.
As far as terrorism goes,where there's a will there's a way!

I was a LAX recently. It took 2 hours to get the bags ex-rayed. I don't have a problem with waiting if it will make a flight safer.

I fly about 20 times a year and it has gotton progressively easy until last weekend when the wait in security was 45 mins mainly due to a higher crowd than usual. If people know the drill, put everything in carryon, prepare to remove shoes, don't wear belts, it goes pretty fast and they are pretty good in security now. Don't see any hassles. Still I do think we could use some prospective profiling.

I agree, profiling would eliminate many of the delays.
El Al profiles, and has done so for years, and I'd fly on their planes anytime.
Now if the ACLU would shut up maybe our airports could profile but I doubt if we'll see that any time soon unless there is another disaster.

Did it ever occur to any of these morons that they ought to have a separate line for those with electronic devices. That would accomplish two things. Those who travel without the devices would not be held up. Those who travel with the devices would either have to plan on extra time in security or else think about whether traveling with the electronic device is really worth the extra hassle.
Would somebody please buy Norm Mineta a new baseball bat?

have found a great way to avoid airport delays. I don't fly. I quit years ago, before 9-11. I quit when the shorts and flip flop crowd started showing up. It had turned into a cattle call. If I can't drive, I don't go. Screw the airlines.I don't fly partially because of the insane security measures, but also because I'm not going to support companies that are basically getting welfare from the government - most of the airlines that got aid were doing poorly before 9/11, and just chapped my butt when they all stood in line begging for billions saying 9/11 caused all their problems.
