Actually, rarely drop below the Kendall Jackson Vintners Reserve for a good inexpensive quaffing wine, I just thought 'ol Chuck deserved a plug...heheh.

Hey, some day freepmail me the recipe for your "killer cole slaw".

I'm always searching for the perfect recipe. I hate my own cole slaw!

BTW - Just so I don't corner myself into a box I might not be able to extricate myself from later, my claim to fame is hosting a vertical at my house of 80's Heitz Martha's Vineyard (maybe 3k worth of bottles). The wine from the vineyard is still available but not under the Heitz label. Personally, I don't think the current winemaker has done close to anything with it that Heitz was able to do. A shame. I've never found a wine in CA that can match it. It has an unmistakeable minty character. I was told at the winery it was due to the all the Eucalyptus Trees that once grew on the property.

I'm not a snob. I can appreciate the efforts of lower price wines as well as top end. It's all what you get for your money.

If that is all you think you are worthy of...go ahead and imbibe all the 2 buck upchuck ya like. Personally, I think you are worth at least a $4 or $5 bottle.

I spoke to my wine store friend & he told me that the wine is purchased for that stuff at $1 per gallon...you can get 3 bottles per gallon...so you are getting about 33 cents worth of grape juice. The rest of your big expenditure covers the bottle & shipping. Drink up big spender!!!

Me, I am relaxing with a delicious wine from Spain....Borsea...$8.99...a granche with panache!

I just read this post after I responded to your one to me.

So, you don't always drink bad wine....you just bring it to friends homes, eh? I demand to try your Heinz wine....my best bottle right now is a Turley. A friend was just at the winery & got me a bottle of the juvenile....Turley is great because it is a HUGE wine with 15.5-16.5% alcohol.

Well, that 8.99 wine you bought was probably purchased by the vendor for 2.99, a $6 mark up. I never said TBC was a great wine, only that it was a good value.

The wine you're drinking sounds wonderful and at that price also a good value. I made the point earlier that I felt CA wine was overpriced so it isn't fair to compare a CA wine with a Spanish $$ wise as they have a completely different underlying economic basis.

There are excellent wines at great prices coming out of all corners of the globe. Chile, South Africa and undiscovered Spanish wineries are a few I would mention. For the price, they are a much better value than well known labels in CA.

I have never trusted the opinions of people working in wine stores...too many competing interests. Better to subscribe to publications that evaluate without taking advertising like Parker or The Wine Connoisseur. I take the Wine Spectator for industry news only.

I have never been a member of a Wine of the Month Club. Are they any good?

BTW - It's spelled GRENACHE.

"I demand to try your Heinz wine"

LOL! It has very good legs, a rich red color, kind of a sugary vinegary nose and a taste reminisent of toomatoes!

I have one bottle of 93 Heitz in my cellar unfortunately not a MV.

So, you don't always drink bad wine....you just bring it to friends homes, eh?

Only an overpriced wine is a bad wine in my book. A quaffing wine is a quaffing wine whether you pay $2 or $15. I have friends that think Opus is the cat's meow because it impresses their friends. Dolts.

I demand to try your Heinz wine...

Sorry, all gone...heheh.

...my best bottle right now is a Turley. A friend was just at the winery & got me a bottle of the juvenile....Turley is great because it is a HUGE wine with 15.5-16.5% alcohol.

That would make it a "hot" wine, not a "huge" wine. If I want a large alcohol content I would drink Everclear, but it doesn't make for a nice table presentation. Is that a cab? I find it interesting because it's almost too hot for a Zin. We could do this all night. How about we call it a truce, you bring that bottle over on Sunday and we can compare notes?

Nah, I like to argue. I don't quaff wine. Turley is a very huge Zin...big and tasty....and the extra alcohol just makes it even better. Plus, I get it for a discount as my buddy gets it from the winery & he has been in their "club" for a while.

Sunday is not for wine drinking....certainly not a big zin or cab....pool parties require beer, margaritas, or some crisp white wine....I do know a good $3 chenin blanc that would be perfect.

But,looking back at me post....I still messed up the spelling ....I can't type & I refuse to proofread. With my slow home connection....I always hit the "I have previewed" button....even though I did not preview.

I trust the guys at my wine store because they are cool & I have known them for years...they know what I like & have always steered me to great wines. They pride themselves on finding inexpensive but NOT CHEAP wines....there is a huge difference.

I have been in a few wine clubs over the years and think they are fabulous. They usually send stuff I have never tried before. I am with American Cellars right now and have a shipment from Portugal on the way....that means some tasty port....I usaully only drink that in winter.

hahaha...I really can't type...I type in the dark while drunk....with my hands behind my back....and bees stinging me....with loud music playing....and the phone ringing...and someone is at the door....my dog ate the keyboard...and it is all Al Gores fault.

You like CS....I don't. I guess we can leave it at that.

A few decent CA wines that are 5-10 dollars....Castlerock, Firestone, Parducci & Blackstone. You can get them at Vons...They aren't as cheap as $2, but for a few $ more....you can taste the difference.

I try wines from all over....I love Argentina & South Africa right now.

Did someone say "Coors lite"? I've tried some of the vintage European "stuff", but this golden nectar from the mountains of Colorado beats it hands down. ;-)
