NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - U.S. job-cut announcements jumped in July to their highest level in three months, an outplacement firm said Tuesday, another sign that the longest job-market slump since World War II continues.
U.S. employers announced 85,117 job cuts in July, a 43 percent jump from 59,715 in June, according to Chicago-based outplacement firm Challenger Gray & Christmas, which publishes monthly tallies of job-cut announcements.

>>Where was the impetus for gutting our economy?
Outsourcing your bottom three items was impossible then, due to the early stage of development of the Internet, and global telecommunications in general. The advance of telecom is what has made all this possible.

Yeah, there's something about people cheering government intrusion for the sake of "safety" while you could pack a nuke right across the border that bothers me.
It's all a sham. Dept. of Homeland security is a joke. Nothing more than an excuse to spend more money in a last ditch effort to stimulate the economy. Hundreds of tons of drugs cross the borders every year and anyone who thinks that moron Tom (put some duct tape on it) Ridge is going to protect them is nuts.
Spot on- ridge pops up and makes some sweeping statements about security that accomplish nothing but a justification for it. They should have given him a try out at KFC before making him head of one of the biggest beaur. ever

It's just strange to me that a nation which was second to none on the planet felt the need to turn the system that got it there on it's head.

Thank you.

It would be my contention that most of these cuts are temporary as they await increased consumer spending. The question I have: When increased consumer spending causes increased hiring; what country will the hiring be taking place in?

I'm not arguing that, and wouldn't. Just pointing out that it was impossible to do back in 1990. I'm not sure people wouldn't have done it then, too.

Gore and Perot had a debate about NAFTA were all Gore could do is insult Perot. What Perot warned of is happening, but of course it is not all because of NAFTA.Gore was vice president if you recall. This mess has been being set up for awhile.

"When increased consumer spending causes increased hiring; what country will the hiring be taking place in? "We have a Bingo. The US will just be increasing the hiring of government employees accepting applications for unemployment or welfare.

Well, your #41 is a keeper. Bravo and Thanks.
To: DoughtyOne
That pretty much covers it.
You missed the bit about ballots having to be in 15 languages...

"Hey something is off here - who needs Ridge. When Bush took out Saddam that was supposed to end terrorist threats not increase them. Is this saying that we wasted our troops and $5 billion bucks per month on a wild goose chase?

And the other bit:
Your independent and unregulated news services report exactly the same stories in exactly the same order, from exactly the same viewpoint every night at 6.
Unlike people in every other country on earth, you have never seen a body or body part from the WTC. (With one exception: the gay Firefighter Chaplain)...

The pictures of the people suspended in mid air that I have captured on my computer, told me all I needed to know about WTC bodies. However, you have a point, because we always see the bodies of the "innocents" our troops have had to take out in foreign nations don't we.
