Washington -- As California embarks upon the most politically tumultuous week in memory, the state's most popular politician is cloistered a thousand miles away taking in a seminar on U.S. security policy.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who first eyed the governorship more than a decade ago, has remained remarkably detached from the raw electoral maneuverings in her home state, even as a growing number of elected officials call on her to place her name on the recall ballot.

If DiFi gets in and turns the budget around, which she could in two or three years, she would be in position to run for president in 2008 and Hillary would have to kill her to beat her. On second thought................

Simple she could run and win, resign and let Bustamonte appoint her back to the Senate. The Governership would remain in democratic hands.

"...remained remarkably detached..."

I have often observed these mannerisms by cowardly scavagers acting in the same role, just before they rushed in to get a death grip on a weakened victim.

Sounds like something the Dems would do. What I don't understand is why it's assumed she would win the Governorship in CA. I find it hard to believe this witch is actually so popular. I find her disgusting.

Nice try - it made me think for a minute - but wouldn't she then lose her committee assignments and seniority?

I don't think she's going to leave the Senate. Senate's a near-lifetime position, governor's no more than 10 years (and that if term limits don't count the filled-in term).

We think our bench is thin as Republicans; seems to me their bench is just as bad, if not worse, since DiFi is the only person they think could win after years of Democratic dominance.
