[history]
Giant ice towers that formed next to steaming volcanic vents in the freezing atmosphere of Mars may be the best place to look for life on the red planet, an Australian geologist said on Monday.
Nick Hoffman of the University of Melbourne said the latest images taken by the Mars Odyssey orbiter had revealed curious hotspots in the Hellas Basin that could be similar to ice towers in Antarctica, where microbial life forms live on chemical energy.

Hmmm..
Normal guy: Pizza may hold clues to life on Mars.
Raging hormones dude: Sex may hold clues to life on Mars.
Raging Hormones dude Part II: Smut Mags may hold clues to life on Mars.
Hillary Rodham, Politician: Bill's bacterialogical screening may hold clues to life on Mars.
Daschle: Bored and saddened, may be life on Mars.
This is too easy!
Way too easy!

Hey, I know! Let's send a vehicle to Mars that will land there and come back that will bring with it some sort of microbial life form that will destroy all life on Earth. Not to worry; the government will ensure that there is no contamination.

Too late, contamination already happened:

Really?
And when did you stumble upon this field of interest?
Honestly, think about it.
They've said all kinds of stupid things about what may or may NOT lead to clues about life on another planet.
The opnly real test is to get a sample and either study it in situ, or have a sample return mission heaven forbid.
If you want to get snotty with me, fine, we'll play snotty.
If you don't like the embarrassing ideas of these intellectual types being exposed like that, well gee, too bad.
Nothing beats REAL science and REAL study.

If you want to get snotty with me, fine, we'll play snotty. Oops!
I wasn't getting snotty. I started the fill in the blank form for making fun of this silly "science."
My intent was to poke fun of all of us (especially ME) and to get federal funding for our posting of smart-aleck comments...

Sorry.
I got roasted for answering a funny comment like that once before, quite recently.
I do find it QUITE laughable all teh speculation about what they may study here on Earth to find clues about life on Mars.
That's like studying Mr. Joe to learn about Mrs. Joe, you aren't going to learn a aheck of alot about Mrs. Joe.
Now.. If they REALLY did study the stuff there instead of speculating about stuff here...
Road Department lane marker painter: Roadkill may lead to clues about life on Mars.
The stuff they're throwing out there is insane, actually.
Sorry about the cross misunderstanding there.

Sorry about the cross misunderstanding there.I reread it from the top and would have come to the same conclusion you did...that's why I said "Oops."

Is everyone with a college degree and employed by a university to have his life-on-Mars opinion appear in the news media before we actually ground-truth Mars and end the controversy?

Don't worry about it now, makes sense now that we've sorted it out.
Did you see the double post burp?
Happened to me on another thread at the same time.
Wonder what that was all about?

Wonder what that was all about?I got an "unavailable" page type response and resubmitted. I guess both actually posted.

My browser did teh restrting to load deal, complete with the little blue progress bar at the lower right going back to zilch and starting over.
So I cursed my browser.. then saw now three double posts at the same time.
Not sure what it means, could just be a server burp.
Sometimes happens, even here at FR where we have probably the best guys in the field keeping an eye on things.
