The human brain just isn't meant to function--can't function--at high temperatures.

But I wonder if he closed himself up inside or left the door open or what?

How cold is a fridge? 40? And how hot outside? 115? Frankly, I would rather do the first than the second. My house went down to the mid 50's at night when I lived in NY, and I remember my mom when she lived on a KS farm told me the water would freeze in her room sometimes.

Soldier sleeps in fridge to escape Iraq heat - A British soldier serving in Iraq tried to escape from the sweltering heat by sleeping in a walk-in fridge but ended up being treated for hypothermia.

Just how long was he in there for? Last summer I worked the concession stands at the beach. Single story brick buildings with no fans or air conditioning. On top of the heat from the sun, we had the heat from the grill and the fryers adding to our misery. I used to spend as long as an hour and a half in the walk in fridge, sitting on top of a ice cold beer keg.

Bring your sleeping bag next time, mate. Great idea, poorly executed.

He probably didn't take a blanket with him.
As long as you are awake in a frig you are ok, as you tend to know when you are getting too cold.
If he fell asleep without a blanket then I can see where he could have gotten hypothermia.
