But HOW do you discredit hundreds and thousands of witnesses??

Put Kobe's legal and PR teams on retainer.

To thwart the instinct is, in fact, to invite death. That, my friend, is deviance.

So, Christ was deviant? As was St. Paul?

Madam, celibacy has been lived by many holy people, and by many people who were merely dedicated to earthly causes.

It is not "deviant." It is a departure from the norm.

It hardly "invites death."

There are many gifts. Recognize celibacy as one of them.

What makes you think the charges are false? This is not the only case of this happening.

I don't believe that for a minute. God made us a certain way for a reason.

So, it's impossible for a human to renounce sexual relations?

What about those who have to do so, through physical infirmity, such as paralysis?

The desires are still there, though the capability is not.

Men can DECIDE to forego sex, for many reasons, including the Kingdom of God.

It is not the norm, but renouncing sex does not make one abnormal.

The scent of cash is in the air.

Can hardly argue with that point of view.

Do not get me wrong, I am not defending the clergy (the Catholic Church has a lot of questions to answer lately), but 18+ Years to figure it out that your daughter was molested?
I might look dumb to you, but I ain't that stupid to swallow this one as the real McCoy. No can dooo...

Sexual dysfunction and those with sexual identity problems, in many instances, is given refuge by the celibacy mandate of the Catholic Church .

Neither do I. Not only is it not a legitimate "lifestyle ", imo, it leads to all manner of warped , reactionary fantasy about the procreative function of womankind. The abuses and exploitations of women the RCC is renowned for proceed directly out of those fantasies. That's my considered opinion.

It's not impossible, sinkspur. But it does have consequences.

Yes. And people with sexual dysfunction also enter into marriage.

That hardly denigrates the sacrament of marriage.

But for the church's track record, I would have to agree with you.

Sadly, the more stones turned over the more that is found.

What is the "known" total of pay outs so far?

Danmar,
Denial runs exceeding deep when sexuality , religion, and one's daughter are concerned. How many times have you read stories about a young woman who was able to conceal her pregnancy from her parents for seven or eight months, even though she lived in the same home with them? Don't you think the blindness required for *that* level of denial can extend for years and years where the abuse was not seen, and your own clergy was involved? I have no trouble believing that at all. Denial and repression are extremely powerful forces.

The pool is much greater to find one of marriage quality who has little or no "pyschological baggage" as is the pool to find an emotionally well adjusted priest or nun.

That is all I am saying.

Like what? Service? Mother Teresa renounced sexual relations and founded a worldwide order of nuns who work with the poorest of the poor.

Do not denigrate celibacy simply because you are not called to it.

The Catholic Church forces men into celibacy who are not called to it, in order to be priests. There can be dire consequences there.

But there are true celibates, susan. Ghandi lived as a celibate for most of his life, though he was married. The Dali Lama has lived celibacy as well.

Are these "perverts"?

Goodness gracious, Bluntpoint, you are so correct in saying that. As people are so fond of repeating, clergy are human too. Yes, they are, and when you thwart the human organism and the way that it is designed to function, well, *sister*....you are going to pay the price. It's just as plain as the nose on your face.

Their deeds are not necessarily reflective of their public celibacy.

It did not make their deeds greater or poorer.

How do you explain married men and women who abuse children? Or married men who rape?

Their minority status explains it for you.

But the pool is large and deep for good and normal people to choose from in an attempt to avoid such problems.

Of course they are. Ghandi and the Dali Lama have said as much.

Men can be truly heroic. Giving up sexual relations can be truly heroic, if done for a cause.

Sorry you can't see that.

What would you expect them to say?

"If I had not been celebate I could never have achieved such greatness."

Such a suggestion belittles all those family men and women of accomplishment.
