[history]
Attorney General Bill Lockyer issued a stern warning to fellow Democrat Gov. Gray Davis on Thursday: Run the kind of "trashy ... puke" campaign you did last year and a lot of prominent Democrats will vote to recall you and give the job to Republican Richard Riordan.

This next week is going to be very interesting because the Dems have to decide whether to enter the race by Aug. 9. I love the smell of Democrats imploding in the morning. Hopefully if one gets in several will jump in thus deluting the Dems vote. I cannot wait to see how this turns out.

Something to look forward to. Maybe we can get some Democratic Texas state senators to come here and file.

Lockyer talked in general terms about what he characterized as Davis' history of running negative campaigns attacking his opponents' character and record. So, why wouldn't Davis run negative campaigns? All of his lies about Simon were untrue (oops, being redundant here), but the average voter wasn't going to put out the effort to find out the truth. The effect of these lies was to suppress the Republican vote, since Davis (like all Democrats) knows that Republicans care a lot about morality and legality, while Democrats (especially in the media) don't. Davis' lies about this recall have already been flying thick and furious, and, judging from headlines in newspapers today (no, I didn't buy them), they are being picked up and disseminated by the media.

Notice that "pro-choice" is, as usual, described as the "moderate" position. Pro-life, of course, must be assumed to be radical. But the media aren't biased. I know, because they say so.
Of course, in this instance, the "moderate" view is also the minority view. That's what the polls say.
