One point that I have yet to see in the discussion about Robinson is found in 1 Tim 3:2 - an "overseer" is to be ...the husband of one wife. "Overseer" is the Greek word episcopos - look familiar?

"epi" = "over"
"scopos" = "to look, or see"
Therefore, an episcopos is an overseer.

And so Robinson fails the qualification twice:

* He is divorced from his wife
* He is living with another man, not a woman.

Therefore, he is twice disqualified. And I have not even spoken about the admonition in this passage to bring up his children to be godly (he has two daughters), or that the overseer must be "above reproach." And his lifestyle has brought great reproach to himself and the ECUSA.

Oh well. They aren't interested in what the Bible says.

Is this the one that dumped his wife and kids to run off with his gay 'lover'? If so, he should be fired whether the lover is gay or straight.

No, though he was accused of that by a UK paper. His wife and he split amicably and co-raised the kid. The daughter testified in favor of his consecration as bishop yesterday, also reading a statement from her mother in favor of it. Seems he gets on well with his former wife and daughter.

He also claims to have accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior (Saviour, to the Anglicans among us) when he was about twelve years old.

Having said all that and lest someone mistakenly think I am sympathetic to his consecration as bishop, allow me to state that I think appointing a non-celibate homosexual to a place of leadership in any church is an abomination to the Lord.
