Anyone who doubts that news media hostility to religious-based activism is often political at its core need only review the media's treatment of three Dominican nuns sentenced last week to federal prison in Denver for damaging government property at a missile silo. For months the three were regularly applauded in the Colorado press, the subject of tributes in columns and a number of one-sided news reports. One Rocky Mountain News writer started his commentary on the nuns' impending prison stint with the following warning: "We like to think of ourselves as a just nation. So if you want to hold onto that thought, you might want to stop reading here."

Berrigan was a heretic and so are these camp followers of his ghost-dance religion.

Mr.Carrol is right thesse nuns had rallies all over colorado during the spring and early summer. The ralley in Greeley ,Colorado had all sorts of the peace movements and also the Local commmie party. It was not the right thing to do putting up the hammer and sickle when a group of FReepers are counter ralley the group, the older marines that where there almost went balistic over this. I never would get between a angery marine and a commie the blood bath could get you wet. Last weekend the peace idiots had more rallies at all the silos in northern colorado and it looked just like a 60's lovefest all over again. I would have liked to counter this but I was busy FReeping their Queen Hillary in Denver at the time.

When I was a student at Northern Michigan University in Marquette in 1985, there were 2 husband and wife actvitist who also broke into the local air base and performed the same destruction. They were sentensed to serious time in the Fed Pen system.

I find it so amazing that there is such hostility to these women who put their butts on the line for their beliefs. Do you folks have any proof that they're Marxists? Or do they just believe in opposing what they see as evil?

Lest we forget, a nuclear bomb going off is like a window into Hell itself. While we may not approve of their action, can we at least acknowledge the strength of their convictions and not accuse them of everything but kissing up to Castro?

IT was pc nuns like this who ruined the religious orders, by getting rid of poverty and obedience, by substituting "meditation" for prayer, by encouraging sisters to live in nice apartments on salaries and by substituting "social action" for serving the poor directly (i.e. nursing, visiting the sick, running hospitals).

When I got home from Africa where I worked as a missionary, I was sometimes asked why I didn't become a nun. I answered that most of the American sisters I knew lived better off than I did, and some prayed less than I did. I said the only difference was that I didn't have to ask the Pope before I screwed my boyfriend. THAT usually shut them up (that was in the 1970's when feminism and lesbian nuns were "coming out", and driving holy women from their orders).

These nuns are 70's feminists who stayed in-- why not? Can you imagine a poor or working grandmother who works full time and cares for grandchildren having the leisure and money to do such things? These pc types moan about "solidarity with the poor" but actually act like rich liberals who live on daddy's checks--except here it's our good Catholic families checks....

Hopefully the new orders will be like the old ones, i.e. poor and holy women who pray a lot and help poor people. Some of us remember the old days and weep...

Yes i do. 11 years of catholic school education, seven of that by nuns. The american catholic church was high jacked by marxists and homos 30 years ago.
