"Well DUH". I quit saying that in the 7th grade.Me too. Now I just say, "Oh Huh!"
To: Cacophonous
"It doesn't offend me. I find it laughably stupid." How so?
Because it is so simple and direct, so unsophisticated? So accurate?

YES
"Time and distance from the events of September the 11th will not make us safer unless we act on its lessons. America is no longer protected by vast oceans. We are protected from attack only by vigorous action abroad, and increased vigilance at home." GW

I think the best come back Bush ever had on Gore is when AL Gore started using the slogan,
"You aint seen nothin yet" in describing the 8 years of him and Clinton.
The next day George W. Bush said "Yesterday my opponent declared "You aint seen nothing yet", Well Al Gore, That's the problem, WE HAVEN'T SEEN NOTHIN YET

Because it's wrong. People don't hate abstractions, which is what freedom is, especially to those that have never had it. Odds are, they want to be free themselves. They undoubtedly hate us, and I cannot tell you why, but it's not because we are free.
Now, it's possible, as another poster has suggested, that I was being overly critical.

Here is another
"In these 19 months that changed the world, our actions have been focused and deliberate and proportionate to the offense. We have not forgotten the victims of September the 11th -- the last phone calls, the cold murder of children, the searches in the rubble. With those attacks, the terrorists and their supporters declared war on the United States. And war is what they got." George W. Bush May 1st, 2003

To: Cacophonous
Yes they do. Let's look at the abstraction "capitalism", for instance. And you are also wrong as for them hating others that do have it. At some level many Arabs realize they are not free and hate those who are.

Molly Ivans named a kitten "strategery" before she killed it and drank it's blood.
Just kidding, Molly. Here's blood in your eye.
