First of all, there isn't any money left over. We are running a deficit. Our tax cut just made the deficit a bit higher. I don't want pols to take away my tax cut, I want them to cut spending.

"All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth.... could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.

At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide." - Abraham Lincoln

On the other hand, Al Gore got over a million more votes than Bush, proving that the voters got it wrong,

At least the dead ones in Chicago and other such pestholes.

I do too, but I'm just relating an entirely plausible scenario, which is that when the currently UNtaxed 401k and other retirement funds start to be taxed as they are cashed in, this will represent (without any changes in the law) a tremendous new flood of revenue for the fed. government. So the concern over the deficits and the debt and even the so-called "unfunded" Medicare, etc. is misplaced. These all will be funded, and there will be still more money coming in.

If you read the Gokhale and Smetters article, you will realize that the tax you discussed would still leave a $31 trillion shortfall. Worse, if the government steals your retirement money to pay your SS check, you have not gained anything and have lost an additional 30% which is the average overhead administrative costs of most government run programs. In effect, you would be 30% worse off than if the government defaulted completely on SS. That is part of the reason why it is important to actually look at the facts and not to just hope or wish we get through this.

Jackson did something very important. He tried to get rid of central banking in the United States. He succeeded for a while.

If any Dem had the courage to stand up and say that Clinton should have resigned, then Gore would be sitting in the Oval Office today...that's why Gore probably has nightmares..so the Dems, in effect, outsmarted themselves.....and the country is far better for it, as W. is president during these trying times...which, to me, is immutable proof that there is indeed a God, that he lovers this blessed country, and that, yes, he has a somewhat quirky sense of humor to boot..

It almost happened on his watch.

Democrats are roughly half of our population. And they have already drunk the Kool-aid. "Prescription drug benefits" tell me that Republicans are at least tasting the Kool-aid.

I have been a Republican all of my life. Since Reagan left office, my biggest reason for remaining a Republican has been because no one else can defeat Democrats. Much of what Republicans have done and are now supporting is anathema to freedom and capitalism. Republicans are losing sight of the real goals and need their attention refocused on supporting the Constitution which does not include socialism.

And came close to getting impeached for his efforts. Might be a lesson in that.
