You are exactly correct. The first article I ever read by Thomas Sowell was an article about how the environmental movement was blatently racist and I strongly suspect that if these types of malaria deaths were occurring in white northeast America, DDT would be in common use.

I just finished reading Treason and am now reading another one that is just as challenging; I suspect Coulter has read it too. Published in 1908, G. K. Chesterton's The Man Who Was Thursday takes on the anarchists and says that there are two concentric rings. The outer one is the uninformed mass who simply believe that society has created all their ills and once corrected, life will improve. The inner ring is composed of the intellectual (the educated) leaders of the movement who hate life itself and want to destroy it. They use the outer mass to achieve their ends. Coulter's conclusion about why Democrats are inherently treasonous is that their worldview (held by the educated elite) can lead them nowhere but to the destruction of civilization. Interesting arguments.

Don't neglect to mention Dr. Kinsey of the "Kingsey Report" in a list of mountebanks and frauds who used junk science to promote one leftist political goal or another.

Kinsey used the sexual behaviors of prison populations from which he extrapolated the sexual behavior of the entire nation. That this is a fundamental statitstical fallacy is now widely understood but Kinsey nevertheless continues to have his reputation defended by ingoramuses and leftist hacks. The Kinsey institute is still cited in some quarters as an authoritative source.

The damage that Kinasy has done to America by his normalization of deviant sexual behavior is incalculable. He and Rachel Carson should be charter inductees in the scientific fraud hall of fame.

No, I don't think that people like Carson or the hard-core environmentalist types are "blatant" racists...they would pop veins and clutch at their chests if so accused. But, as you alluded, the results of her and the environmental left's movement is racist...as Sowell mentioned in his article from the late 80's, there are almost zero black activists in the environmental movement and blacks make up a very small percentage of the outdoor-worshiping, suburban yuppies that benefit from invironmental activisim.

I suspect that if malaria is discovered in suburban white Connecticut, the response will be vastly different from the response in Africa. If malaria starts making a significant return to the USA, I'll bet the ban on DDT is at least temorarily lifted.

As long as malaria is primarily a third-world problem, the attitude remains, "who cares?"
