NEVER FORGET
...Here's a chance for you to help do something DIRECTLY for our Hero Soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan for our FREEDOM and future Safety in Time of War.
...The Quatar, Afghanistan Rest & Recooperation Center (R & R) is hosting 3rd Infantry Division, 10th Mountain Division, etc Soldiers from both Iraq and Afghanistan. Many arrive without a stich of civies (Civilian Clothes) in 120 degree weather. They need summer clothes i.e. T-Shirts (simple without political statements) that they can wear off base or around camp, shorts, swimsuits (No thongs or speedos, please) and more shorts. Everything needs to be in good taste so they can go on off base excursions without raising eybrows with the outside folks (Indigenous Personnel).
...The Quatar PX (Commissary Store) is small, sparsely stocked. CARE Packages are welcome with items like:
...Kool Aid, sunblock, BEEF Jerky, music; comics, the usual.
Mail Items to:

A few more Freeper tips on 'care packages':
Good stuff:
..socks, foot powder, sunscreen, LOTS of baby wipes, dried jerky, packs of dried soup, salt/pepper packets, toothpaste and brushes, comic books I sent were loved, the jumble word puzzles, crossword puzzles, deoderant, shampoo, newspapers from home, magazines, ketcup packets, musturd packets, candy that WON'T melt, gum, suckers, t-shirts, rubics(sp) cube, dried food, they LOVE, cup of soup, even ramen noodles, but the best in food catagory was the jerky. They like season packets like the resturants have, easy to take: Q-tips (for cleaning sand from weapons), hand/body lotion, chapstick, disposable camera, phone cards, large ziploc baggies, energy bars, sweetened Koolaid, Tabasco.
razor cartridges, lotion, eye drops, playing cards, books, summer sausages, smoked cheese, hand sanitizers,chap-stick, eye wash, sun-tan lotion, socks, anything HIGH in protein was much appreciated like Protein Bars, beef jerky, peanut butter cookies, a soft blanket for the cold nights, a little battery operated fan, TP (packing material -appreciated,cream (non-aerosol) bug 'spray',
Also - print out copies of "Support Our Troops" threads with reports of FR rallies and pictures! Let our men and women in uniform know that they have our support
Here are several websites that tell about how to send care packages.

Ronnie,I just sent out a box today but I forgot something or maybe it wasn't a good idea to begin with. What do you think of sending "Blue Ice"? What kind of refrigeration do they have in Iraq right now? Do you know? Your ideas are good. I think we should send them things like eye wash, socks, deodorant, baby wipes, cross word puzzles, powdered drinks too.

How about jeans? I just got a pile of jeans for female troops (I would assume there are those there too!). My daughter had a friend who left some with her that my daughter couldn't wear. If those would do, I'll send them! We don't have anything for guys that is new. But maybe I can send something else they can use!

I include myself in this effort, but ask that those folks, who care, to refrain from buying from Sams and Wallyworld, since they are now extensions of the Chinese Red Army!
Buy American (or at least from somewhere besides China!)

I read that DOD asked folks not to send these packages. Have things changed? I would like to send a package.

*************** UPDATE ***************
I passed this on to several groups that I belong to. One Military Mom just emailed me back that her son had just returned from his R&R in Qater. Shorts are NOT allowed!

According to Army info at the ARCENT website:
Do remember that Qatar is a Muslim country and you need to dress appropriately. Both men and women should only wear shorts and sleeveless tops at the beach or around a private enclosed pool.
I don't think the specific request for shorts would have been made had it not been o.k. to wear them on base for R&R, but I'll double check.
Pants are added to the list. (^:

Some tips from a Freeper in Kuwait.
Remember all... Its 120F+ degrees there with horribly high humidity. Folks here in Kuwait are also sending them t-shirts, sandals, and swimwear.

Welcome bump for the troops!
Also, clarification at #114:
boxer, shorts = (Freeper)boxerblue, shorts, and not 'boxer shorts'.
Carry on. (^;
