1000 on the ground every day. They're still wearing PT uniforms for lack of better clothes. The PX has clothes, but is still really small and very crowded. DVD's and video games OR THE FUNDS TO BUY SOME would be helpful. There's been x-boxes donated, but nowhere to use them. The DVD collection is really sparce. DVD's benefit not only the R&R troops , but those stationed there. Due to security concerns, most troops (permanent and R&R) have to stay on base more than in the past.
Thanks to all who help.

1000 a day. O.K.
Good. The troops are getting a much-needed break and our super-heroes in Qatar are managing to provide the accomodations for that many Soldiers daily. Forget McGyver, these guys are miracle workers - providing what they do with the little they're given to get the job done.
This calls for reenforcements. Calls to our elected reps daily for the emergency $$$, letters to the editor in support of our troops and our efforts in Iraq, as well!!!
Brenda's doing a clothing / care package drive through Oct. 31 at CALVARY CHAPEL OF MELBOURNE, FL. She is including the Qatar drive. We hope the Program Manager of 'News Talk Radio WMMB1240' is going to help with PR.
She asks that I include her e-mail address for anyone interested in contributing financially.
Her 'Soldier's Ministry' hosted an "Operation Tribute to Freedom" rally - in concert with the DoD - last August where she helped bring together over 1500 members of the community in support of the troops.

The DoD should send Brenda to Iraq to cheer up the troops:
"My greatest desire is to go and visit the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, talk to them, visit with them and let them know how much we love and thank them for all they do.They are so brave, and unselfish. I wish people would realize that when they say, that our troops don't belong over there, or, bring them home, that the devalue the troops efforts, and their sacrifices. In essense they are telling them that what they are doing is not right, or not enough, or that the sacrifices they make are worthless."
"I am a Christian, but I will fight to stop these negative attacks ( they try and use our troops like pawns for their political chess games)."
"The great part is no matter what, our troops keep on doing their work and doing the right thing."
"It is men and women like these that have enabled our country to become AMERICA, and provided and maintained our freedom of speech, religion and life that we so love..."
God Bless,
Brenda F. (9/29)

Thanks to Freeper "dodobird" for your generous offer and contribution ~ for your support for our troops!!! |
Reservists' families in Melbourne are having a difficult time. Many aren't being paid by employers. A few have had their electricity cut, are going without as their husbands serve in Iraq.
The community needs to know, but the press turns each need into a political attack.
Freepers, you might want to contact your local Veterans groups, ask what kind of problems local families are facing. We can at least get the word out, contact church groups and veterans groups for help.
Brenda knows of the official support resources for each branch of the military - http://www.defendamerica.mil/support_troops.html - but the need is greater than what they can provide.
Ideas would be appreciated. Please add them to the thread, or e-mail Brenda at the address above. Thank you!
If you want on or off my Pro-Coalition ping list, please Freepmail me. Warning: it is a high volume ping list on good days. (Most days are good days).

I have to SECOND "Brenda F" 's thoughts! They are my own.
When I saw some of the guys returning home yesterday, I started crying before they even reached their waiting loved-ones. These guys, who are protecting our freedom, looking so young and so tired, I wished I could have been their to give each and every one of them a big hug!!
Thanks RC for all you do!

These guys need R&R clothes. Let's all help them out.
I sent a box back in early August - I'm going to try to send another.

Thank you for being there for the homecoming troops, TNt.
I've been spending time on the news, and not enough on the clothing drive. Will keep the thread bumped.
Asking Freepers to share their ideas and efforts.
Doing some 'footwork' this week!
