[history]
Shame on the Secret Service. This week, it investigated renowned editorial cartoonist Michael Ramirez like he was some left-wing homeless crackpot who had sent President Bush an anthrax-laced death threat — all because Mr. Ramirez drew a provocative cartoon that was clearly intended to defend the president.

A pretty simple answer is obvious.
The secret service did not have a clue who the guy is so they investigated.
All they got was a room full of lawyers, BTW.

More than welcome.

I just love this chick. She's consistantly on the money and has a gift for articulating logic and clarity.
My wife refers to her as "the pretty one".

I personally know a freeper who was visited by the sunglassed-ones after he made a comment on FR (even though the comment was almost immediately pulled by JimRob - back in Clinton days). Makes ya wonder who's watching - if they caught a comment that was only live for (I forget exactly), but say about 5 minutes?

I think MM overstates her case here, but she does make one valid point -- the SS busied itself looking into a "threat" to the president, while unauthorized people were able to get themselves into a position to do some actual damage. We have dubious federal law that makes it a crime to threaten the president, and I'm waiting for this "law" to get a serious challenge in court. It is such an obvious violation of our equal protection provisions (so why isn't it a crime for someone to threaten me or you?) that I'm surprised it's held up this long.

All they got was a room full of lawyers, BTW.I'm amazed that the LA Times actually went to bat for Ramirez. They're so far to the left that you know having a talented conservative cartoonist on their staff must drive them completely insane, and that they've probably been looking for an excuse to get rid of him for ages. I guess this is one instance where their hatred of George Bush made it impossible for them to do what they really wanted - for now, anyway.
