A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 7/28/03

Posted on 07/28/2003 4:42:51 PM PDT by mtngrl@vrwc
Today, President Bush went to Pittsburgh to make remarks at the National Urban League conference, a group that represents black Americans. He said the U.S. economy is showing fresh signs of improvement. He urged Congress to approve languishing legislation to help low-income Americans and those having a hard time finding work.
Then later he greeted Ben Curtis, winner of the 2003 British Open, in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington. Curtis outlasted Tiger Woods and other champion golfers to win the tourney earlier this month.
Also today, President Bush signed the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act. The legislation is supposed to send a message to the regime of Burma that the regime's continued detention of Aung San Suu Kyi and continued oppression of its people is unacceptable and cannot be allowed to stand.

Thanks for posting tonight's Dose. Wonderful pics.
I've been a bit sad today, ever since I heard about Bob Hope's passing. What a giving, funny, patriotic man. There is all this talk about who could possibly replace him. I think that would be an impossible feat.

"Today America lost a great citizen. We mourn the passing of Bob Hope. Bob Hope made us laugh, and he lifted our spirits. Bob Hope served our nation when he went to battlefields to entertain thousands of troops from different generations. We extend our prayers to his family. And we mourn the loss of a good man. May God bless his soul."
Don't cry over me, I've gone Home.
Thank YOU for your support of the military.

Thank you for the early Dose. Newsflash from Waco -- with the finding of Baylor b-ball player Patrick Dennehey's body, Baylor alumni and presidential library task force are concerned the negative publicity will put Baylor out of the running for W's library. I kind of doubt it (not sure they're even in the running), but think the grand opening of W's library in ten years or so would be a great place for a Dose convention.

The President was in great rhetorical and sartorial form today!!!
GOOD NEWS from the polling front:
1.) I don't yet have all of the data from the recent Gallup/USAToday/CNN poll, but I do know that the President's numbers are up across the board!!
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2003-07-28-saddam-poll_x.htm 2.) I posted the following information last evening:
NEWSWEEK (the leftist rag that consistently publishes the lowest, most distorted polling numbers for the President this side of the NYTimes) just released its most recent polling data.
The President's approval ratings seem to have stabilized
[quick -- someone get the smelling salts for Dick 'GWB's approval ratings are in a free fall' Morris'!]
7/24-25/03 57% approve 34% disapprove (+23)
[68% approve of his handling of terrorism; 43% approve of his handling of the economy -- as the economy improves, watch the President's ratings soar (although (MOE) 60% is nothing to 'sneeze' about!]
7/10-11/03 55% approve 37% disapprove (+18)
The President's trustworthy ratings are at 60% (with roughly the same % who do NOT believe he purposely misled the public relative to WMDs); and 72% believe he is someone who can get things done!!!!

I spent most of today fluctuating between feeling sad at the loss of Bob Hope, and smiling at the thought that the halls of heaven are ringing with laughter today.

Howdy. I am back from the hospital-Jan is back in. Have no clue as to what is going on except an internist is called in. Will keep you posted.
