[history]
Touring a San Francisco day care center this week, Gov. Gray Davis spotted a poster of a tiger, conveniently labeled for the children. To the surprise of his staff, he was outside moments later declaring, "I'm going to fight like a Bengal tiger."

Isn't it interesting how so many in the media are doing their best to turn Davis into a martyr?

"You would be upset that somebody is trying to take away your livelihood that you had prepared for all your life." English Translation: "We are ENTITLED to be on the public tit and the voters have no right to try and take that away from us."

Of course, Davis could save the state all the money that is going to be spent on the recall election and make sure that he is replaced by another democRAT by simply stepping down. But he can't do that, because the most important thing is that he remain in power.
As Clinton would say, "To hell with the rest of you, this is all about ME! ME! ME! ME! ME! ME! ME!"

To the surprise of his staff, he was outside moments later declaring, "I'm going to fight like a Bengal tiger." Perhaps it wasn't the best analogy for a governor facing a recall election in less than three months -- the Bengal tiger is near extinction --

[snip] There is, however, a sort of siege mentality in Davis' inner circle.......... This view helps the governor focus on the recall as a political event, rather than a personal indictment..... [snip]Pulaski ... said Davis has a good sense of humor, but rarely shows it in public. "You only see it in the private man, which is really unfortunate, because if he let himself be more himself as the public man, I think people may feel more warmth toward him," .
These two quotes sent chills down my spine, bringing to mind what it would've been like if Gore had been president on 9/11/01. "Seige mentality", "private man vs. public man". Thank God this is happening in Kali and not D.C.

"Davis is spending a lot of time these days in the Bay Area and Los Angeles, Democratic strongholds, appearing with Latinos and African Americans and for the first time in his five-year administration, calling his record "progressive" on a regular basis."
Oh yeah, calling record budget deficits and unemployment "progressive" will sway lots of people...NOT!
Liberals aren't "progressive". Liberals haven't had a new idea in 30 years.

Gray Davis wasn't elected for his personality and he is not being fired for lack of it. These people are on an endless quest for palatable excuses.
To: Canticle_of_Deborah
It seems to me that the media spend a lot of time telling us how likable Davis would be if he just weren't so unlikable.

Unless the voters of CA want to live up to the stories about how stupid the rest of the nation BELIEVES they are...they won't "buy into" this attempt.
Free will people...free will. Use it, or lose it!

Ah San Fran, Davis' only friends. I heard that only 5000 recall signatures came from San Fran county, but out of the LA/San Diego area came 1 million. No wonder they can get this blatent spin out there without challenge. Does anyone else find this as offensive as I do?
There is, however, a sort of siege mentality in Davis' inner circle, a belief that the recall is being orchestrated by the same conservative forces who were so effective in Florida during the 2000 presidential race.
Are you referring to the liberal activist judges that "ruled" by the party that put them in power, which incendentally was unconstitutional in that they ruled to only count from 3 or 4 counties that were DNC strongholds, yet the rest of the state weren't because in they recounts kept turning up more votes so they were being ignored-along with the entire Florida military ballots-strictly to make it appear Gore won? So in short, conservative forces were really "honest" and "constitutional" forces is what the paper is admitting here.
Nice to see it in black and white, their paranoid Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is really simple truth and the rule of law. Pesky reality strikes San Francisco again!

"Needless to say, you are bummed out. You would be upset that somebody is trying to take away your livelihood that you had prepared for all your life." OH MY GOD...This is exactly the way thousands of small business owners feel about the oppressive laws which your husband has so freely handed out.
